Help on using some of the Digital Juice Products

Postby nannybear » Fri Jun 01, 2007 9:26 am

Besides the information below I have a tutorial on how to use Editor Toolkits in Producer. I am hoping to make more tutorials and if I get enough will start a new thread.
ETK
http://www.featherstonesolutions.com/Vi ... plate.html
Swipes and stuff
http://www.photodex.com/sharing/viewsho ... 1436&alb=0

I have sent Mike a slide style to use with Swipes and stuff.

An example which uses 126_LowerThird2 from the ETK 6

Steps In Juicer

1. Add file to render to the 'batch panel' and click the "Settings" button;
2. Select required resolution from the 'Presets' drop down menu in the "Canvas" settings panel ("720x576 PAL Widescreen" in my case);
3. Select "QT Animation with Alpha" the 'Presets' drop down menu and select "Render Alpha Seperately" in the "Output" settings panel;

N.B. The "Render Alpha Seperately" option was missing in builds 250 and 251 of Juicer 3 but, it has been re-added to build 258.

4. Specify the location and then click the "Render All" button;
5. Once render is complete, you will end up with 2 files - "126_Lowerthird2.mov" which is the animation movie and
"126_Lowerthird2_alpha.mov" which is the movie containing just the alpha component.

Steps in Proshow Producer (I am using ProShow Producer v3.0 Build 1935)

1. Create a new project with the correct aspect ratio (16:9 in my case) then add a picture to the first slide;
2. Double click on the slide to open the "Slide Options" window;
3. On the far left of this new window, click on the "Layers" button in the top left to make sure you are viewing the "Layers" page which should look something like the picture on page 1 of the attached pdf (picture filename will obviously be different):
4. Using the green "+" button next to the "Contents of Slide" list, then select the "Add image or video" option and add the two
Quicktime files generated by Juicer (this may take some time as the movies are processed by ProShow!);
5. This is the important bit. Using the blue "Up" and "Down" arrow buttons next to the "Contents of Slide" list, re-order the
layers so that the Alpha QT movie ("126_Lowerthird2_alpha.mov") is topmost, followed by the animation movie ("126_Lowerthird2.mov") followed finally by the picture. It should look something like the picture on page 2 on the attachment;
6. Select the "126_Lowerthird2_alpha.mov" movie in the "Contents of Slide";
7. In the box to the right of the "Contents of Slide" list named "Masking", click on the tick box that says "This layer is a mask";
8. Beneath this option, make sure that "Mask Depth" is set to a value of one.;
9. Close the "Slide options" window and preview the project...if all is well, the alpha should work correctly over the top of the
picture on the slide! (the picture on page 3 of the attachment).

ON THE ABOVE HERE IS THE LINK TO FIND THE PICTURES MARK IS TALKING ABOUT.

Scroll down the page til you see Mark's post and there is a link to download the screenshots.Have a happy day!!! hugs Jan

I hope these steps are clear and that they help!

Using Adobe Premiere to extract an alpha file

Postby nannybear » Fri Jun 15, 2007 7:23 am

Alpha Channel extraction using Premiere Elements.
Since it was asked for...

1) Open photoshop premiere elements
2) in the available media window, add the file which you want to extract the alpha channel from.
3) drag this file to the time line.
4) Go to the "effects and transitions" tab. (looks like diag. split screen with a star on it)
5) Select the "Video Effects" fly open
6) within this, select "Keying"
7) drag the "Alpha Adjust" effect to your effects window (on the right side of the screen where you see "Image Control", "Motion" and "Opacity")
Select the "Alpha Adjust" flyopen
9) Click on the check box that says "Mask Only"
a) your screen should switch to black and white at this point
10) Select File->Export-> Movie and name the file something you can remember. I tend to use the same file name with a "_alpha" or somesuch.

Your done, easy wasn't it?

Mike

The Deal with Juice and Producer

Postby nannybear » Fri Jun 15, 2007 7:29 am

Ok, I have almost figured how all the different Juice products work with PSP.

Backgrounds: Just drop them in

Overlay from Editor Tool Kits: There are two files in the set - the overlay and an overlay matte. They work like Mike and Mark have described. The matte is the alpha file. Position like the other directions and they work great.

Lower Thirds from ETK: Work the same way

Jumpbacks: Same as backgrounds

Juice Drops: They are just pictures, but the cool thing is they are layered PSD files that you can use only what you want. Great for backgrounds.

Motion Design Elements: These work like the lower thirds and there is a post here on a free one we were all trying to work on. Check out the "diamond" post.

Swipes:
I have made a tutorial and a style - but still working on perfecting Al's instructions! See above

Help from Al on this one:
Swipes are easy. Just add the two pictures you want to transition with the swipes as separate layers. Add the swipe as the top layer. Now using keyframes, end the first picture (under the swipe) by setting the transparency to 0 halfway through. Begin the second picture with transp set to 0 and bring her to 100% halfway through. The swipe will hide the changes to the photos and will look really cool.

Blessings, ~al
Double Alpha Channel Transitions Help from Dale

Well, I've got a tutorial on how to use the double alpha channel transitions here:

http://www.photodex.com/sharing/viewsho ... alb=135843

For anything but getting started with these things, I do need to update ... these instructions are for the simple use.

if you're using these transitions in more complicated settings, this tutorial could be inadequate!

WRT simple swipes, it's a matter of putting the alpha mov first, the mov 2nd, the initial image 3rd, and the next image 4th on the slide.

HOW TO:
Single alpha swipes. Set the start keyframe of the both MOVs at a time that gives a good viewing time for INITIAL image (so, let's say you set them up to begin playing 3seconds into the slide time... for instance).
Set the final keyframe of INITIAL image to the portion of the MOV that covers the full screen ... this ends this image so that the NEXT image is visible when the MOV finishes its transition. So, you'll move your little play cursor around to see when the screen is completely covered ... put the final keyframe there!

The double alpha swipe's are a tad different ... you'll need to duplicate INITIAL image. The first INTIAL image will be the top layer and will end when the MOVs begin. The 2nd INITIAL image will be located under the matte (which is setup as a grayscale mask and is located below the alpha mov and mov mask set) and will also begin when the MOVs begin. The NEXT image may not need any keyframes other than the two default ones. It will appear when the MOVs have run their course.

A matte is simply a black and white video that'll be used as an intensity (grayscale) mask. These mattes can be used alone to create some interesting transitions or with their color counterpart.

THAT is it in a nutshell...at least the basics of it!

Now I just have to get a handle on the full screen wipes and transitional wipes. I am working on a quick example and will post as soon as I am done. Cheers and have a great day!!!! Jan

This is wonderful thankyou...what an easy tutorial !

I noticed that once a juice animation is done this way ..it wont loop. It loops over and over on a long slide without the mask, but not when you take the two parts and mask one. Maybe theres a good explanation for this !

They are big but they don't seem to cause me any grief. I use stuff like that sparsely. You know that "less is more" theory. Too many goodies and no one focus's on the photos. hugs to you Nannybear

Yes they can be large. But if you resize them in juicer, they do become a lot more manageable. Remember that DJ delivers these things huge so you can crop them to get some thing else.

Hi everyone

Just to add to information about digital juice products:

I followed instructions and changed a Motion Element (no. 95 from Tool Kit 2) to two mov. files and tried to play in Proshow Producer ..but it wasnt quite the same. The element is a comet-like shining sparkles sweeping across the screen. They are multi-coloured. When you see them in Proshow it is just black and white. It is also black and white in Sony Vegas 7.

I noticed the mask was red for this element, so I went to Chromo Key transparency and put it to RED. It's almost perfect, but not quite, theres still a splash of color left on the screen after its played. But the sparkles are multi-coloured like they are supposed to be in Juice.

Maybe you have all figured this out already, but I couldnt find that info anywhere.

Thanks!
Kay

THANKS NANNY BEAR!!!!

Postby Truly M » Fri Mar 07, 2008 10:42 am

Hi all,

just wanted to say a massive thanks to NANNYBEAR for the info on using digitaljuice products. i recently bought alsorts from them in their promotion bit - dvd's for $9.95. Had them sent over here to the UK and although gutted when I received an extra bill from Fedex for more shipping and handling - still thought they were worth it overall. I struggled for weeks trying to put some lower thirds into a show and followed some of their tutorials and no where did it say that most important bit about ticking the box to render the alpha seperatly!!! wouldn't have managed at all without your advice!!! you are a superstar!! Keep up the great work Hun !!!!!!

love Jen

Kay,

If you have a b&W mov in PSP that probably means you're playing the alpha channel mov. If you did it right you'll have those two files, one is the mov with the colors and the other is the alpha channel. Put the Alpha channel mov in layer 1 and the color mov in layer 2. Now, make layer 1 a mask (alpha transparency = the channel type). That should give you a color movie with the background stuff removed (sparkles moving across the screen). (No need to use chroma key!)

In Vegas, I think you'd put the colored mov in layer 1 and the masking layer (the b&w one) in the layer above that and aligned with the colored mov. (can't remember! might be the reverse but I doubt it!).

Hope that works!

Dale
