Serpent’s Path And House Va’ruun
In the mission “Promised, Broken” from the new Shattered Space DLC, you venture into the sacred city of Dazra on Va’ruun’kai.
You walk the Serpent’s Path with Inaza Kaisir, discovering the backstory of House Va’ruun and the events that led to its creation.
At the end of the Serpent’s Path, players choose between two of the four effigies to honor the House Va’ruun.
How To Get To The Effigies Through The Serpent’s Path
To reach the Effigy selection in Starfield, you must successfully walk the entire Serpent’s Path, guided by Inaza Kaisir.
Upon entering the Serpent’s Path, Inaza Kaisir shares a brief history of House Va’ruun and its connection to the Great Serpent.
The first checkpoint features a candle-lit memorial detailing the origins of House Va’ruun. You can choose to blow out a candle or continue.
In the year 2190, the colony ship Archimedes jumped from Mars’ orbit on a historic journey beyond settled space. Contact was lost with the vessel soon after.

Blowing out the candle is optional and has no impact on the gameplay or the mission’s progression.
At the second checkpoint, you can toss an item into a lit brazier next to another memorial. You may choose to discard a junk item or pass.
The third checkpoint requires a leap of faith across a gap. Using your jetpack, boost your way across the gap.
Either take a left to make the jump or use the pathway leading to a staircase on the right.
The fourth and fifth checkpoints sit adjacent to each other. You can step into poisoned water beneath a memorial at the fourth checkpoint.
Stepping into the poisoned water won’t cause significant harm, and the poison status effect fades away quickly.
At the fifth checkpoint, you must choose whether to sacrifice a Groat, a small rodent-like creature introduced in the new DLC.
Obtaining The Armiger Title In Starfield
Finally, you will reach the location where you can select an Effigy. Complete the ritual in the “Promised, Broken” quest by choosing any two effigies.
This choice will determine your House Va’ruun title, which NPCs will use when addressing you in-game.
As you approach the Effigies, a golden haze will appear on your screen. You will be presented with four different effigies, they are:
- Effigy of Devotion
- Effigy of Obedience
- Effigy of Strength
- Effigy of Perseverance
To earn the title “Armiger” in Starfield, select the Effigy of Obedience and the Effigy of Strength and place them on separate altars.
The title is purely cosmetic and not something that will impact your journey and gameplay.
