Video Tutorial - Falling Snow

Postby PhotoGavin » Wed Oct 22, 2008 12:37 am

Falling snow has probably been discussed at length in the past, so I'm sorry if I'm going over old ground here. However it's a question I've been asked by more then one person, and to be honest I had fun making the effect.

Here's the link to my Youtube tutorial: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=oonJoHZ2nTU

To see the effect in higher quality I made this ver small (2.5mb / 1 minute) show: http://www.photodex.com/sharing/viewshow.html?fl=3040875&alb=0

The snow if created in Photoshop using Vanderlee Snowflakes a free plugin:
http://www.vanderlee.com/plugins_snowflakes.html

I'll uplaod a link to my snowflake PNG files later.

Gavin

Hi Gavin,
An excellent tutorial, as usual. Thank you very much.

I like free plugins that do a good job, and that are suitable for all the graphic programs, and not just for Photoshop.
Thanks !

Well done Gavin. Good tutorial. We are well into spring here in Australia and it actually snowed an hour west of Sydney yesterday. Crazy!

Very nice effect Gavin.

Thanks for taking the time to post the example show in your Photodex album too. It was nice to be able to see it in better quality!

Thanks to everyone that's watched and commented on my tutorial.

As promised here are some snow flake PNG's like those used in the video.

I am using GIMP 2.6.6 but, I cannot seem to get the filter to install there.

I went to Vanderlee website and they say the snowflakes filter is partially compatable with GIMP but, they show and older version. They reference doing a deep scan, but, the method they say to use does not seem to work. I have e-mailed them a request for info, so I am waiting for that.

Has anyone here tried to use any of the Vanderlee plugins on GIMP? If so, how do I install them?

Thanks,

Glen
