Wacom Tablet with Pen

Postby kaylef » Wed Jun 27, 2007 4:48 pm

Wacom Tablet -- I see some of you use the pens instead of a mouse.

Is that an application? hmmfph

Anyway, I never realized how much i love my Intuous 3 pen until it broke!! I use it 24/7.
I make a lot of homemade png files to customize my shows and I couldnt even imagine trying to extract with a mouse! Eeek!

I'd love to hear about tips and tricks to use with it. I dont use any of the buttons on it, I guess I should investigate

Upgrade to CS3 which has the new 'quick selection tool'. It makes selections very easy and the quickest I know. :D

For anyone considering a Wacom tablet, I don't know if the offer still
exists in some form or another, but when I bought mine 3 or 4 months
ago, it included a cupon for something like 50% off on Photoshop (unfortunately
for me, I had just purchased the full Photoshop a month earlier .. sigh).
Certainly worth checking out to see if it still exists.

mikey: no such deal right now that i can find....sorry you missed out on the bargain ..nothing frosts my cookies more than that! I didnt get any deal either if that helps!

they have the new wacom .(cintiq?) ..where you write directly onto the screen. I dont think i'd like that, my hand would get tired lifted up to the monitor like that.

I don't remember that the deal was really listed anywhere other than
when you opened up the box with the tablet, there was a cupon in there
for the savings. While I hate missing things like that, that is life - what
really "frosted my cookies" was the Photodex scam where they tagged
us for $300 for the upgrade (to save $100 when the price went up after
the release) then turned around and touted their "Loyalty program" where
I could have had it for $99. Their response to the complaints from
the people who bit on that was "too bad, so sad".

Seems to me there are some Wacom support forums - anyone
considering both Photoshop and the tablet might ask there if anyone
recently has seen a special rate for Photoshop.

Yes, everytime I think about that I get  if you know what I mean. It still Frosts my cookies.

Seriously thinking about a wacom tablet...but thats as far as is goes...this is not a good time for me to be buying such goodies as I am pretty sure I will be laid off work in August. Just something else that "frosts my cookies"

Hi
Do you remember where the tutorial on the quick selection tool was? I would like to see that, sounds very helpful.

Photoshop CS3 50% off with Wacom tablet ..

Postby gpsmikey » Mon Aug 20, 2007 9:33 pm

For what it's worth, it looks like Wacom tablet purchase still gives
you 50% off on Photoshop CS3 now (it was CS2 when I got mine).
Check out the following link to the Wacom site ..

http://www.wacom.com/privileges/Intuos.cfm

You can either click on "adobe" in the list or just scroll down through
the various offers. Bottom line is you can buy Photoshop CS3 by
itself or you can buy it after buying a 6*8 wacom tablet for about
the same price for both (the tablet comes with elements).

I emailed Wacom's customer service and they emailed me back that the 50% off Photoshop CS3 is good until 11/28/07 and is available for all Graphire pen tablet owners. If you already have one, you'll still be able to get in on the offer. I'm hoping to get in on this offer as I bought a pen probably four years ago and it's probably in a box of computer parts somewhere as I didn't care for it (thought it would be better to have a larger surface as I had only purchased the smallest size). I had earlier tried to call support at Adobe, and the person there didn't know anything about the offer.

btw: I believe if you run Vista, you need to have CS3 as CS2 and below does not support Vista.

I used a several year old graphire for the deal and got the program for $299 ++. However, they indicate that Elements (that you received with the tablet) must be installed for the upgrade to install.

PS: Mikey - Thanks for the heads up! JC
