Re: Interlocked Rings - Mask Fun
Well, the plot certainly leaves something to be desired (although it does resemble the current crop of political ads ), but that is a really cool effect Dean !! Well done.

You can't have too many gadgets or too much disk space !!
mikey (PSP6, Photoshop CS6, Vegas Pro 14, Acid 7, BluffTitler, Nikon D300s, D810)
Lots of PIC and Arduino microprocessor stuff too !!

Hi Dean,
We thank you so much for the how to. We'll get a try this coming week. We will try the second method. quetzal

Mikey -
Well, I didn't invent a plot but have provided "appropriate" background music, as follows:
Mysterious/concern (that the sphere is entering a confusion of rings)
"Calculating" (as the sphere wends its way through the maze
Victorious (as the sphere escapes the final rings and heads off [into space?])
Corny, I know, but fun trying to use MacLeod's search algorithm.
Now you get to make up the story!
Here's the new address for the slightly edited version:

Dean,
Now that you're playing with masks ... I've a little challenge for you.
http://www.photodex.com/sharing/viewsho ... alb=135843
If you click on the link above and then, when the initial message finishes displaying click on example, see if you can duplicate the look of the outside oval ring using ONLY PSP gradients/solids and PSP masks.
The solution is not provided ... it's meant as a challenge. You can do stuff in Producer using only its masks, gradients and/or solids, that many folk considered impossible. When I created this, it was shortly after Producer gained masks (v3.2). Until then, the only way to get a similar effect was by using a bitmap editor.
No big deal ... but, it is an exercise that stresses one's masking abilities. (and yes, there is a "trick" involved, it just involves some mental exercises!).

Dale -
Took a while, but see the attached:
http://www.photodex.com/share/deanathans/cdpxcmg4
The "trick" I had to use was making a screen capture of the background and cropping/vignetting it to fill the inside of the outer blue elliptical ring (and, therefore, under the inner solid ellipse). (It would be nice if PSP had an "image/layer from background" option as PSE10 does.)
Other than that, no built-in drop shadows were used.
Thanks for the reply!

Re: Interlocked Rings - Mask Fun
Not bad Dean.
The "trick" I used was a set of gradients with the multiple colors set at an angle. With this option, changing the size of the ovals is a lot easier than using a screen clip. It doesn't dawn on many people to use a gradient in that fashion. I think most use essentially the default settings.

Hi Dean,
We were working about two days to achieve the interlocked rings, but it's done. Now the new challenge is the one of Dale with masks (gradients and solid colors) using Producer only. quetzal
