What is the best file format for the web

Postby cheviotmike » Fri Nov 30, 2007 10:46 pm

Can anyone suggest the best file output for ProShows on the web? I would like the best image quality, but also would like it easy for both PC and Mac viewers to easily access the show. From my limited experience it seems that the best shows are those made with .px files (Create for Web output). However, it requires the Photodex Presenter program to be viewed. Most people will not install the Presenter and Mac users can not use it to access the show. So what do you recommend for web shows with both good quality and universal access?

I would go flash but also Digital Juice has a deal on right now for Sorensen Squeeze which from all accounts people are really happy with....it compresses. I am a "huh" in this area but I think I am going to get it myself.....just my two cents Cheers Jan

Hello Nannybear and others:
Is the Sorensen Squeeze Flash Video? If so is it any different than the ProShow Gold version 3.2 that outputs a Flash Video file (.flv)? I tried the Flash Video output of ProShow Gold and it is inferior in image quality to .px files (Create for Web in ProShow Gold output). Also, there are some who do not have a Flash Video player and can not view the show. Wouldn't MPEG video files (.mpg) compressed to .avi be more universal? I do not know how good the image quality would be with AVI, but most digital cameras output their video in the AVI format, so I think this might work with more viewers.

I tried the demo at it it did a miserable job. I have no idea what the rave is all about. Ya, it squeezed it alright, the life that is. I think by the time everythign is said and done, it might have shaved a few bytes off the file to get the same quality but it took forever to shave those bytes since you had to render in uncompressed AVI first and then rerender in Sorenson.

The tip that Mike gave of setting the bit rate on Flash to 16000 really makes a difference in the output. It generates a nice size file too, but at least it's a decent output.

Hi,

i prefer Flash-Output, but not as it is offered from Producer - it do not stream really or better it do not allows you that your flashfile gets loaded while its been shown...
The flashfile loads completely and then its been shown, so totally userunfriendly...
(this was in the version 3.1.2018 the case - i do not know if this is still the same)

So prefer a workaround and it works perfectly in superbe quality and with more possibilities to control the flash-output than Producer allows:

The flashfile thats been generated by this third party tools do not have so much megabytes and gives you better and more control over your flashfile than Producer offers you.

I have been through this problem.
Take a look at 'Member Web Sites' "Proshowgold Flash'' by RayB
There are a lot of intersting comments, they may help.
