Sample Shows - Seeing Behind the Show

Postby harvey53 » Sun Aug 12, 2007 5:02 pm

I am a fairly new user in PSG and trying to learn the basics of how to do things. I have played around already putting several sample shows together. The basic shows go together very easily. I will be working on my Son's upcoming wedding and also a show for a high school class reunion next year so I want to learn some of te extra effects that PSG offers. I have enjoyed spending a lot of time looking at shows and am amazed at what different members have put together. This is all well and good except that after seeing these, I am stumped as to how all of the presentation fits together. I know there is likely a lot of helpful information on the forum as to how to do things, but I am looking for an easier way if it exists.

I am also a MS PowerPoint user and like it because in addition to seeing the entire presentation, I can also go behind the slide to see how and what made up the content. This is a very good feature because it allows one to create or model a new presentation after an existing one without a big learning curve. You can see all the timing of transitions and basically all of the behind the scene stuff that one does not see when viewing the show.

What I am wondering is whether one can look at a PSG in Presenter and then go behind the scenes to see how it all goes together. I just thought I would ask because it would make the learning curve a lot easier. I know of a couple of good tutorial DVDs that can be purchased on-line and am considering this but feel this too would be an excellent way to go.

I would appreciate any responses regarding this question. Thank you kindly. New User: Harvey53

I am not aware of any way to use presenter to see how a show was
put together (or look at the .px file either). That said, most people
here are very good about answering questions about "how did you
do that ?". There are also a number of tutorials on the Photodex
site that show how a lot of things are done. Probably the best thing
to do is look at the shows, ask about what you like and snoop through
the "tips and techniques" section.

I agree with Mikey. One other point... If you feel a bit timid about asking a public question, simply PM the OP and you can get answers privately. (Just in case you are new... PM=Private Message, OP=Original Poster.)

Sample Shows Behind the Scenes

Al and Mikey,

Thank you for the responses. I think I will take your suggestions Al and contact authors of shows when I see omething I like. It just seems like the learning curve will be slightly longer than necessary than with PowerPoint. Thanks again and I appreciate the replies.

Harvey (you wouldn't be 6 foot tall with big ears would you ?? :D )

That is a good way to learn how others did it - even if you could see
"inside" Presenter (the .px file), you would probably end up quite
confused since many people use a mix of tools to get the result they
want to show. Often times there is a bunch of stuff done in something
like Photoshop or even a video editor to create some other effect
with motion that is not available in Proshow -- you could spend
hours trying to guess how someone did something only to find out
they used an entirely different tool and imported the result from
that tool.

Whatever you do, don't hesitate to ask when you see something you
want to know about -- people here are always asking others how they
did something (and you NEVER hear anyone say "well that was a
stupid question" -- good bunch here). Explore around, look at what
people have done and ask questions !! Best way to learn.
