Is there anywhere a general best practices that advises how presentation should be laid out?

i.e
x seconds per photo
x seconds per transition
max of x different transitions per presentation

Things you shouldn't do?

Thanks

The only "best practices" I see mentioned here on a fairly regular basis are don't try to use every transition in one show. And try to keep the show to a reasonable length so as not to bore your audience. That would typically be about 10 to 15 minutes . . . . . or thereabouts. :D

In time you'll develop your own style. When someone posts a show watch it and think about what you like about it or don't like about it. Then use that to help you make your own show.

Don't be afraid to post your show, but also be ready for critiques. Pretty much everyone that takes the time to comment is trying to help you get better.

Participation on this forum seems to ebb and flow so if you post a show and don't get any comments right away don't be discouraged.

Welcome to the forum and good luck.

You also need to be aware of the subject matter and the audience - you don't create the same show for the folks in the retirement home as you would for a bunch of young kids. Watch the time of the show too - even a good show will cause people to start tipping out of their chairs after about 20 minutes or so.

I found the Secrets of ProShow Experts book to be really helpful too.

This is the best advice. The shorter, the better. Also restrain yourself when it comes to transitions. Keep it simple.
