4:3 or 16:9?

Postby dave45000 » Fri Sep 20, 2013 6:34 am

If I am doing a show for a wedding reception in another town what aspect should I make the show? Not sure if 16:9 will work with the hotels ppt projector or screen? Any suggestions?
Thanks

Ask them..... They are the people that would know what will work with their equipment and what will not.

If they show is 16:9 it will still likely work, just will probably have the black bars at top and bottom. So it's up to you in this case.

A 16:9 show will work with the projector whether or not the projector is 16:9 as well. What will happen is a letterbox effect. That may or may not be acceptable to the viewers (and they may not even notice that much).

Call the the hotel or get ahold of someone who can and find out what the projector is (so you can look up the specs) or who can tell you resolutions it supports. If the projector is a relatively recent addition, it can support 16:9. If it's old, it's probably going to support mainly 4:3 aspects (because most TV sets were that aspect).

PS I'm someone who leans to the 16:9 version because someone may want to view the show after the event ... and they will do it on a 16:9 tv or monitor in all probability. While 4:3 isn't dead ... it's pretty darned close to it.
