E-Mail an Executable

Postby Dieter » Sun Aug 25, 2013 1:23 am

Hello,

I would like make a Executable to send from PSP per E-Mail. I tried it and the exe was suspended from my Mailsoftware.
How can I do that to send a Executable as an E-mail to my friends with PSP without the exe is suspended .

Thank you and best Regards Dieter

Oh, sorry - that was the wrong forum.

You can't do it. Any decent email software won't allow an .exe file to be attached. It can also detect an .exe even if it's bundled in a .zip file. This is because some of the worst viruses have been designed as executables. Instead, use one of the free services where you can upload a file and then give people the link to it so they can download it.

Here are three, but there are more:

Dropbox is another one that is good for allowing you to put stuff "in the cloud" that others can get at. Dropbox also has the advantage that it is available on iPhones/ipads etc (although an exe will not run on them, an mp4 can be viewed etc.). I have dropbox (free) on my PC, iPhone and iPad and it works well for moving large files around.

While dropbox would allow you to put an .exe out there for people to grab/run, I would suggest reconsidering and using something like an mp4 instead. Mp4 is a video file format, while .exe is an executable - the exe has several disadvantages - 1) can only run on a pc, 2) can get infected with nasty thingies, 3) many people will NOT consider running an exe under almost any condition - even from close friends.

I would also note that all other concerns aside, most .exe files will be over the size limit of most email limits (the usual limit is somewhere around 10-20 megs) so even if you could "hide" the exe in some other container, your email server would not pass it.
