Using Styles i. e. Overlapping Pan Sequence or Disp

Is there any way in using some of the Styles such as Overlapping Pan Sequence or Display 9 Expanding styles to make them stay on the screen longer before changing to the next slide? I tried increasing the time but that didn't seem to "hold" the pictures on there before changing to a new slide.
