registered Device plugin with different ph number

Postby Tigg » Mon Oct 15, 2012 2:26 am

Hi
I accidently registered the Device plugin with a different phone number than the phone number I used to buy ProShow Gold.
If I install the plugin will it screw things up because of the two different numbers?

I am about to publish a show I have put a lot of time into .. and I can't have it screwed up.
It has taken a week for me to work out how to publish to MP4 format and Photodex's I have to say 'inefficient' system not helped make things any quicker.

Running close to my deadline to have this published so your help would be wonderful! :D

As far as I know, there aren't any plugins for ProShow. Do you mean something else such as one of the style packs Photodex sells? If that's the case, it probably doesn't make any difference. After having changed my phone number, it took until the next upgrade before the new phone number "took."

I think that he refers to the plugin for devices.
But I don't know how the registration number differs, and if a different telephone number makes any difference.

I've never seen a plugin for devices. What is it?

I would double check with Photodex, but I suspect that the phone number/key/name is only used to validate during the install and does not change any of the actual information at all.

Having had two different phone numbers simultaneously, I'm thinking, like Mikey, that it means very little. Besides, how many of us these days have 2 phone numbers, one land line and the other mobile? After a while, we can't remember which number we used for what. If software required we always remember our numbers and never change them, there'd be uprisings.

VueScan (hamrick software) that I have uses your email address you used when you purchased it to validate the install. According to him, that is the only thing the email address is used for (he doesn't send out email notices etc), so you need to remember what your email address was when you purchased it (which may have been several ISP's ago !! ) and he will not update your information in his database to your current email address. Just one of those handy "things" you need to track sometimes.

Let's just say he is a bit "rough around the edges" On the other hand, you can get a straight (if abrupt) answer from him - try getting a useful answer from Sony Software

I find that, the larger the company, the less helpful they often are. There are certainly exceptions to this, but it works as a rule of thumb. Exceptions: Wacom is very responsive and helpful, and so is Propellerhead (my music software, but with such a name, they really need to be accommodating).

Thanks so much for you response guys.
Photodex did reply and it appears I was right to be cautious. It wasn't the phone number itself that I was worried about it was the connection the registration of the plugin needed to make with legitimately purchased ProShow Gold. To vaildate the purchase of PSG they incorporate your phone number into the Reg Key. Because the Device plugin had to be activated in the same place as where you register your Proshow gold my fear was that it would be expecting the phone number portion of the generated key to match the phone number in the generated reg key for PSG, and if it didn't match... well I've seen software do some stupid stuff just cos' there was a check sum error.

Anyway... Photodex gave me a new key to use for the Device plugin so presumably I was correct and they re-generated the key using the same number I used to register PSG. All good.

And best of all I can output directly as a MP4 file. Beats me why they have this rigmarole for the industry standard file output.

I just had hours of work I didn't want to risk.

I'll be darned. No wonder my new phone number didn't "take" until after I'd upgraded. I agree that it's a lot of rigmarole, and I'm not sure it's the best of ideas either.
