Very long time to import videofiles
Hi!
Using ProShow we will show a number of sequences from a DVD (to which we have legal rights) - along with "ordinary" pictures - at a meeting in our congregation. I've "cut out" those sequences/parts from the DVD storing them as .mpg files. There are ten (10) files with sizes varying from 135 to 363 MB, in total 2,0 GB. I created the show by importing all the videofiles and pictures, finally I collected all the files.
Now, every time I open up my laptop and start ProShow (Gold, Version 4.1.2737) I have to wait a VERY, VERY long time since it will import (again?) all those videofiles. The largest file -- 363 MB -- took more than 15 minutes. Is it normal?
Using Windows Task Manager (ctrl+alt+del) I note that the CPU-time is 100% and that there are three instances of bothe "fvideo.exe" and "fvideoi.exe".

Re: Very long time to import videofiles
The speed at which your computer processes your slide show depends on a few things:
1. The speed of your computer's video card
2. The speed of your computer's processor
3. The amount of random access memory available
4. The overall size of the video and picture files in your slide show
5. ProShow is not optimized for video so these clips take longer to process
Bottom line . . . the bigger the show, the longer it takes to load

Re: Very long time to import videofiles
berane,
I've asked myself the same question - "What is Proshow loading and why?"
I think it's just processing and throwing the video into a cache. However you take the same video and put it into another video editor and it loads quickly. There's a lot of technical stuff behind the scenes I'm not fully aware of, but in the end, Proshow just isn't optimized for video clips.

Hi!
Thanks to Dan and Tim for your input.
Simsalabim - the "problem" is gone! Without doing anything the show now loads within seconds. What happened?
I note that now there are only one instance of "fvideo.exe" and of "fvideoi.exe".
