Reduce File Size
I am attempting to create a DVD with two chapters. When created in ProShow it is too big for the DVD.
I went back and reduced the MP4 resolution and this resulted in the two file total coming down from 4,853,971 to 3,040,218. But when ProShow turns these into files to go on disk both are the same size of 4697mb. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Reduce File Size
It doesn't matter what size your mp4 files are. ProShow will convert them to mpeg 2 because that's the standard format for a dvd.
The 4697mb file size should fit on a standard dvd. I think the max size is 4.7mb. You can try making an iso file and then burning it with a 3rd party burning program like Imgburn.

Re: Reduce File Size
Thanks. The iso file is 4,676,520 and I cracked that to a video-ts folder with 4.45gb. The burner said that is too much, despite showing the DVD size as 4.7, so I have chosen Overburn and it is running. Next test is whether it works in the video play and then whether it will copy to the 50 discs I need to make.
I did make a copy that fitted the DVD with Wondershare Video Converter but their menu is poor. I like the ProShow menu better, but still has bits I don't like.

Re: Reduce File Size
Of course the size in MB matters, as Joe pointed out.
But, as a guidance, think also to the time of your show.
The capacity of your DVD is roughly one hour.
If your show is longer, you are running into 2 major problems:
1. fitting it on the DVD
2 The attention span of your viewers which may become bored with shows that long.

Re: Reduce File Size
Thanks everybody for the suggestions. It is good to know the MPEG2 info. Clipping out a few pictures is the only way to truly reduce file size.

Re: Reduce File Size
My experience is that real available space on a regular DVD is 4.3-4.4 GB. I would recommend using blu-ray disc instead. (But then, of course, you must have a blu-ray player.) But there are also DVD discs that are allegedly at 8.5 GB. The real available space on these is 7.9 -8.0 GB.

You could use dual layer DVD's
