Can I ask ANOTHER question about my laptop???

Postby HunnyB » Wed Jan 16, 2008 6:12 am

I am new to the laptop and have more questions.

First, everytime I let the cursor just lay dormant, and it is on a link or something,
it will click by itself. What's up with that?

Second, should I try and keep the laptop plugged up as much as possible.
Does letting the battery go down, then charging it back up (several times a day)
harm anything? I sure don't want to mess up the battery.
Or should I try to use the laptop plugged in as much as possible.

Thanks guys for any advice.

I have no idea what is with the "auto-click" feature where it clicks something
without any input from you.

As far as the batteries go, there have been volumes of information written on
that and millions of dollars spent on research. In general, any time you cycle
a battery, you are shortening it's life. The batteries in your laptop also have
a "degrade with time" feature -- they have a limited life even if you don't use
them at all. If I remember correctly, the Lion batteries last the longest if
partially charged and never used (but they still will die in about 3 years or
so). Quite a few people run their laptops on the AC power adapter only without
the batteries even in the computer. If the power fails, it dies. Some will only
put the batteries in when there is a danger of power outages so they act like
a UPS for the computer (if the power goes out, it still is running on batteries).
The newer batteries are better than those from 5 years. There is no one
"best" answer and batteries are expensive.

Thank you my darlin.
Now I am a little smarter about batteries.
I think I am just going to keep the laptop plugged in -
and (maybe) store the battery somewhere else for backup.

THANKS!!!!!

Love and peace,

HunnyB,

I adopt the procedure you stated above.
Store the battery fully charged. Plug in the battery when you want mobility.
The battery life depends on the number of charging cycles, after which its it starts to deteriorate.
