Server slow-down?

It's bad when I start noticing that the site is responsive instead of noticing when it's slow. In my experience, anything more than ~3 seconds and a new visitor is gone, probably not to return.

You're on the mark when it comes to new visitors. Had I not already been a member, I would never have waited it out. There's also the member problem when, for instance, we have a question or an answer to someone else's question, and it goes unasked or unanswered because either patience runs out or the browser says the page has "timed out."

I imagine the problem isn't exclusive to the forum but is spread throughout everything on this particular server. Our esteemed administrator is probably watching the slowdown and thinking about it carefully.
