Server slow-down?

Postby BarbaraC » Sat Sep 29, 2007 8:30 am

Am I the only one waiting what seems an eternity for a page here at the forum to load? It's not my computer or my ISP because other sites are loading as quickly as ever.
Also, I seem to have stopped getting notified about posts to threads I'm watching.

Do I have a hex on me or is everyone experiencing this?

As someone else noted, it seems to be right around the time
the west coast of America wakes up (or maybe lunch time
on the east coast, or maybe dinner in Europe), but there
does seem to be a definite pattern to when it slows.

It took nearly a minute for this reply window to show up. I think I'll just stay away until Monday morning. Maybe I'll get some things done if I stop lurking so much. Maybe I won't, either, but one can always hope, right?

Server slow down ...
Count me in as being in the slow lane for the last couple of days. It does seem to be in the mornings and acts like the entire universe is logging onto this board. Other sites seem ok.

FYI

It is 8:30 am here on East Coast of US (Georgia) and this site is as slow as Molassas!
The stats say there is one registered user (me) and 5 guests in this board right now.

And ...as an aside - my timezone has never been correct - it is one hour off ???

Deb, you can change the time zone in your profile section, but it takes figuring out Greenwich time. It took me several tries before I hit the right one. I mean, the first question involves figuring out how many hours behind England we are, and then the next question involves the fact that we're still on Daylight Savings. Simple, right? My brain clogged up with it all. :)

And then along comes "daylight savings time" :D

Currently, the west coast (North America) is 7 hours from GMT, so the
East coast should (in general) be 3 hours. Also, a little tidbit here --
assuming you have the timezone set correctly, double click the time
icon in your systray (lower right corner of the screen usually).
Click the "Timezone" tab -- it should show you GMT (UTC) and the
correction factor (not including daylight time). I do pretty good
until late at night when it is today here and tomorrow there .... :?

Right, and it wouldn't have been as much fun picking different times until one of them showed up correctly. Thank goodness we don't have to deal with military time. I'd have to give up and go live in Fiji.

Painful. Extremely slow at this point. Simple page changes have been (roughly) timed at 9-23 seconds. Getting to this message entry screen was about 7 seconds. And this isn't the first time or even the worst occasion. It's been sporadic but really seems to have gotten worse over the course of the last couple months.

It's bad when I start noticing that the site is responsive instead of noticing when it's slow. In my experience, anything more than ~3 seconds and a new visitor is gone, probably not to return.
