Hi,

For those that may be interested, a chapter from Scott Kelby's "Digital Photography" book is available for d/l (PDF) from this site.

http://www.creativepro.com/story/howto/24980.html

He details his recipes on how to get THE shot. (14 examples)

May be of interest to some of you.

Yes, I have the book and it is worth a good read. I remember the
old Buick Roadmaster (the red car in the first couple of pages). If
you look closely at the top center of the windshield, you will see the
radio antenna pointed down along the center of the windshield - there
was a knob on the inside where you could swing the antenna upright
(I guess it gave people something to fiddle with). That must be about
a 1950 or 1951 maybe ? (we used to have a 1950 hard top with the
old straight-eight engine).

Hi Mikey,

I also have the book, thought some of the members here may find Scott's "recipes" helpful.

Yes Neville -- I agree completely, I was not trying to say "get the
book instead". Thanks for the link -- it should be very helpful to
anyone that takes the time to read - he has some excellent points
there.

Thanks Neville and Mikey,
Because of you both talking about the book and Neville's link I did a little research. I found the material in this book is something I need to read so I ordered The Digital Photography Book and I also ordered The Photoshop CS2 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter). I made the purchaase from Amazon.com

Thanks,
Douglas

Hi Douglas,

Glad you found the info useful, I also bought "Understanding Exposures" when I order Scott's book. After having taken a Digi Phot course, I found the book helped me understand a lot better.

Got a lot of good reviews @ Amazon.

Yep -- I actually bought about 6 books from Amazon a couple of
weeks back. (I already had the Kelby CS2 book). "Understanding
exposure" is very good. Three of the others I got that look very
interesting were "Still Life and Special Effects Photography",
"Light: Science and Magic" and "Professional secrets of Natural Light
Portrait Photography"
(Box). Now to find the time to read them (although
I have already learned from just snooping through them). I got
started with looking at the portrait stuff since my son says he wants
me to shoot his senior portrait (maybe I'll just leave the lens cap on? :D )

Hi Mikey,

Looks like I'm going to need to put another order in from Amazon, Scott Kelby has put out Vol 2 of his Dig Phot Book.
Has a 5 star rating from customer reviews.
