Help please

Postby Brenda » Mon Feb 05, 2007 9:47 pm

This is very off topic but hopefully one of you computer experts will know the answer.

I need to check out the 'health' of my hadrdrive. A site that has a demo version was recommended to me. However, when I tried to download, I got this message:

Due to massive traffic caused by direct links from pirate sites, you cannot download DriveSitter anymore without reporting referrer. Please enable referrer reporting in your browser.

How do I enable referrer reporting in my browser?

Thanks...Brenda

I hesitate to respond to a post addressed to "computer experts"....

I managed to download a 1.06 megabyte file from
http://www.otwesten.de/drivesitter/down.htm

Is this the same program/version you are after?

There were no messages about "referrer reporting" whatever that is.

I did not follow through and install the software, just downloaded it.

I presume you are aware that Windows XP provides a facility to check a drive for errors. Go to "My computer", right click a drive and select "Properties" and "Tools", or are you after something more comprehensive?

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the info, it is the software I want. Yes, I do need something more comprehensive than what Windows XP offers

Found out that "referrer reporting in my browser" just means adding a web site URL to your Security (Trusted Sites) and Privacy sites under Internet Options.
