Internet Explorer

Thu Feb 01, 2007 7:28 am

Posting this here because it is not really connected to making slideshows.

I am considering upgrading to Internet Explorer 7 and would like to know if it is better than the IE6 version I am now using, or should I stay with what I have?

Thanks...Brenda

IE sucks, regardless of version. And rumour has it that IE 7 introduces a lot of incompatibilities on various web sites.

I would stay away from IE 7 at this point. There are no benefits to changing.

In fact, I would recommend that you switch to Firefox 2.0 instead. A much nicer browser, easy to install, standards compliant (for the most part), very flexible and doesn't have the massive security holes that plague IE.

Try it.....you'll like it! Firefox!

I don't want to cause browser war

The main advantage of IE7, to my mind, are the 'tab' pages. IE7 will open with 'tabs' of web pages selected. But this is not the only browser to have this facility.

My 2 cents says Firefox, also!

Brian,

No war intended. Just stating a preference. :D

Yeah...they copied the tabs from Firefox which has had them forever.

And IE7 still has incompatibility issues with many sites. Not recommended even if you do want to stick with IE.

I agree 100%. Firefox is the way to go. I like the ability you have to customize it.
There are a lot of add-ons also. You need to try it and see for your self.

Thank you all for your replies.

Anyone have the direct link for Firebox2. (Yes, I know I can 'Google', but I don't want to go to a 'sham' site...it's has happened to me).

Am I correct in saying that I would still need IE for Microsoft updates?

Glad I could help. :D

You'll like it. We also use their email which is called Thunderbird. You might want to check it out.

What I was trying to say, but rather badly, was the only real advantage of IE7 over IE6 is the tabbed pages.

I quite agree Firefox has had these since the beginning, guess this is where BG got the idea.

Get a real upgrade . . .

Firefox!

Agreed. IE7 has some major issues with backward compatibility on some sites and many corp. sites, VPN applications, etc won't operate correctly without updates to the server end of things. To be avoided at this point.

Overall, another vote for Firefox as the best alternative. But you'll occasionally still need IE6 for a few very ill-formed or picky sites--no surprise that parts of Microsoft.com are that way.

IE7...my vote is NO!!

Besides making a few shows here and there, I work for a company that installs Point of Sale systems in restaurants. We have ran into several sites that IE7 caused the customer to not be able to get on the internet. Everyone of my customers that has an internet access problem almost always has downloaded IE7. We uninstall it back to version 6 and that usually makes everything right. I use firefox at home and the office. There are a lot of nice extensions that you can add that are really nice.

Hope this helps.
