Totally off-topic "curiosity"

Postby BarbaraC » Thu Nov 13, 2014 4:38 am

A friend has to renew his HAZMAT license every 5 years, which he dutifully did, and it came back rejected. He called the usual suspects (bureaucrats) to find out what the heck had happened. The reply: "Your fingerprints have expired."

Unfortunately, the bureaucrats did NOT expire. The problem was he was a US citizen. If he had been an illegal alien, then he not only would have passed, but would have been given all sorts of free stuff as well. It does get rather strange sometimes - quite a while ago when I got my security clearance (where they talk to the neighbors, check all your bank accounts and all that sort of stuff), when it finally came time to give me my clearance, the officer asked to see my drivers license. Say what? I laughed and asked him if he realized the drivers license was probably the most commonly forged document around. He laughed too, said "I know, but that is what the bureaucrats above say we have to ask for". We both just shook our heads and moved on.

Good one, Mikey.

I bet most people have experienced brainless bureaucratic nonsense at least once in their lives. If someone hasn't, I'll happily share some of mine. I have more than I could ever use.

The problem is the more mindless the problem, the less likely you are to even track down the person making the decision (or finding a way to work it)

What if we've all been misled into believing a human being makes up rules and regulations? What if it's actually a machine set in motion at the beginning of the universe? The Dopesday Machine.
