Ever lose sight of software?
I depend on a little utility called ColorCop. Yesterday, I used it, and then an hour later when I tried to open it, it was sitting right there in the taskbar but was nowhere in sight. No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to work. Naturally, the light bulb didn't go on until I was falling asleep last night. I suddenly realized I'd somehow inadvertently moved the window offscreen with my touchy little mouse, never remembering I hadn't closed it. Programmers these days tend to guard against this, but ColorCop is just a dinky little free widget. First thing this morning, I searched for and found the answer. In case it ever happens to you, here's the solution in Win7 or 8, but it's for software that can be maximized. (ColorCop can't be.):
1. Open the software even if you can't see it.
2. Press Win+UpArrow to maximize the window.
3. Grab the window's title bar and drag it off the top edge of the screen.
4. Now move it wherever you want it.
For software that can't be maximized:
1. Open the software.
2. Press ALT+spacebar to bring up the System menu.
3. On the menu, choose Move.
4. Press any of the arrow keys.
5. A box outline will appear that allows you to move the program back into position.
If you firmly believe in Murphy's Law, then print out the instructions and tack them to your bulletin board. This will ensure it never happens to you. Fail to print them out, and you're doomed.

Re: Ever lose sight of software?
Very good Barbara - I have had that happen before and had the devil of a time finding out how to get it back.

Re: Ever lose sight of software?
I was so incredibly irritated by the disappearance of my little pet utility and then so filled with joy when I learned how to get it back that the method is branded onto my brain cells. I firmly believe I'll never forget how to do it. Yeah, overconfidence has never been a great idea.
