interested in buying a laotop
I understand the requirements needed for a desktop to function well and handle PSP.
But, laptops are a different animal ( for me ) I have a good desktop, but it is upstairs,
and moving it dowstairs is not very feasible. My wife's health requires me to be
close by (downstairs) and there is just so much TV and reading I can handle. I am
thinking (maybe) of getting a laptop. I could work on PSP etc. ( I could actually burn
the show to DVD on my desktop) Most laptops seem to have celeron / i3 / i5 processors.
Would appreciate comments/suggestions.

Forrest,
we have good experience with Dell company - both: regular desktops (several of them - during the years) and laptops, too.
Here is the link to Dell:
http://www.dell.com/us/p/deals?dlpgid=p ... id=4236592
Largest monitor they have is: 17 inch monitor & should be big enough to comfortably work with:
http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-17-57 ... 748-laptop
Or - you can get (extra) 27" second monitor - "ViewSonic" is dependable brand (works well, too - have it over a year - no problems) - from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX2703M ... monitor+27
If you will need more info - let me know.

Re: interested in buying a laotop
My son need do no more than glance at a Dell, and it has a nervous breakdown.
That's got nothing to do with anything, of course, but the mere mention of Dell makes me think of the anomaly.

Re: interested in buying a laotop
I hadn't had much experience with Dell, until a friend needed some help. When I discovered that you could only buy ink for their printer directly from them - that was enough for me. I don't like companies that lock you in.
As far as laptops go - I've currently got an Asus that I bought in Italy - when my carryon bag was stolen right before a trans-Atlantic ship journey. I had planned to have so much time to work with the computer along the way that I had to buy a new one. It has served me well and works great with ProShow, but the pictures on the keys don't match our US keyboards. It's set to use the US keyboard, but you have to know where the keys are supposed to be in order to use it.
I would think that any of the newer decent laptops would work for you.

Re: interested in buying a laotop
I've had great luck with 3 Dell laptops in a row. I've used Producer with the last 2 with very good results. The processor and video card make a lot of difference with using Proshow products.
If it ain't broke , don't fix it !
Re: interested in buying a laotop
My thinking is to get the biggest, baddest, fastest laptop you can afford, paying particular attention to the video card because that's what is at the heart of Producer's performance.
Don't forget that what pleases one person may very well annoy another. And watch out for sales people in computer stores. They don't always know what they're talking about, and most of them haven't a clue about working with resource hogs like Producer.

Re: interested in buying a laotop
I agree with Barbara on this one.
I bought my laptop through Dell three years ago and it has not missed a beat which is more than can be said for the two desktops (not Dell brand) I have had in that time period. I use a Dell XPS 15 with a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M graphics card. I often have Producer 6, Photoshop5 and a few other programs open at the same time and there is no slowing down or hiccups experienced. My only problem is the battery which doesn't seem to last long but I am happy to be connected to the power point and have the luxury of working in the lounge at night rather than the office.
If you want the other specifications of my laptop I am happy to email them to you Forrest.
Cheers, Diane

Re: interested in buying a laotop
I have put off buying one for now, other priorities.
Would still benefit by having one, but not right now.
Thanks for asking, and prior help.
