I have my Firefox set to allow me to choose whether or not to install an update automatically. You can select this option under: Tools/Options/Update and then selecting: "check for updates, but let me choose to install them". :-)

I'm not sure if it is just my machine, but with the new FireFox version 29, they have really changed how "print" works and it seemed to be completely confused by a pdf file - it shows the preview correct (mostly - it doesn't get the rotation of the first page correct), but when you hit "print", it spits out 4 blank pages. If I download the same file and open it with Adobe Reader, that prints it correctly - see if anyone else gets the same blank pages - http://www.raspberrypi.org/wp-content/u ... e-v1.1.pdf with the new version (it is just a simple quick start guide for the Raspberry Pi computer board).

Thank you Dan. Mine is currently set to install automatically but it's nice to know how to change it. My screen wasn't that customized so the adjustment to version 29 for me wasn't frustrating. I can see what a pain it must be to have to go find all the extras and re-customize the UI with every update.

Mikey, I printed the pdf from the link you provided and all I got was blank pages too. Wonder what that is all about. :|

Mikey, I'm not going to print that page, but I went to Print Preview. The preview of the first page (that drawing) shows only the left part. You are supposed to "shrink" it to get the whole page, I guess. All the rest of the pages show up correctly. I think that you are supposed to tell Firefox how you want to view that thing (the orientation).
As I said previously, I've installed that add-on named Classic Theme Restorer, and now I can see all the menus properly (BTW, I have the newest beta version of that add-on).

Actually all my add-ons work correctly with the new version, that's not the issue. But don't you see that Firefox 29 looks like Chrome? If I liked Chrome all that much, I would use it, no? I don't need a browser that is a copy of Chrome.

It does look like Chrome but I have the words " File | Edit | View | History | Bookmarks | Tools | Help " across the top left and a separate search box to the right of the URL box which my current Chrome UI setup does not display.

What has often confused me with Chrome UI is not seeing a search box and getting used to typing searches in the URL box for that as a dual purpose. I see now that the Firefox URL box can be utilized as a search box too so I could be rid of the redundant google search box in my current Firefox UI. Maybe that's an add-on to Firefox, I don't know.

I like to see the menu words at the top as Firefox presents them rather than clicking on them as icons. Probably my personal preference because that's just what I'm used to. I imagine there must be a way to get them to display in Chrome as well but have never pursued that.

As a side note, earlier this year I bought a Chromecast plug-in device and that only works with the Chrome browser. I don't use it as much as my Roku streaming box for viewing TV programs but maybe if Chrome was my default browser and used it more often, I might utilize the Chromecast device more too.

Yes, but that search is connected to the search engine that is defined on the right (search using....).
If you have Amazon or IMDB or some other specific engine defined there, then the search will be limited to that domain only.
I've installed Firefox also on my tablet (Android), and that's how it works there too.

Me too. That's why I don't like Chrome and use it only very rarely.

You are very lucky that you have these options. We here are still stuck with the Cables and the Satellite TV which costs a fortune every month, with no reason what so ever. For the time being there are no online options here.

Hi Mona,

I think if you search you will find ways to make Roku work. I just found a link that describes using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) that allegedly makes it work in places like Israel. As I understand it from the little I just read, one needs to be signed on to a VPN that gives you an IP located in America. It looks like it costs about $8 month but then you could use a Roku and subscribe to streaming services like Netflix for another $8/month or whatever is available thru Roku.

http://www.vpntraffic.com/index.php?act ... nt_id=1430

I don't know how well the VPN thing works but it might be worth while looking into if it can save you some money.

That's just one link of many that describe what looks like the solution.

Thanks for the link Debbie. I've read such articles before. But no matter what they say, it is rather complicated. The IP is not the only thing that gives away my location. How would I pay for the service, if not through my local bank account? :)

Well it does look like one may need a flash router to make it work and as you say that could get complicated. I'm not familiar with that. I've had trouble eoungh trying to install my own wifi routers in the past when replacing old ones and have to pay a tech friend to make it work.

I'm guessing one would pay through a credit card. I pay things through my credit card. If you don't want to do that, maybe you could allocate a debit card that you load with a limited amount of funds for online purchases so you don't compromise what you have in the bank. I think credit card companies provide more protection from theft through regular credit card than a debit card. I just don't know for sure though.

I imagine it will eventually get to the point where your area won't have the complexities to deal with to get streaming service though these other devices. It just takes time.

Debbie, thank you so much for the ample explanation on credit cards :D :D

There is an add-on for Firefox, Chrome & IE called Hola that will allow you to circumvent the location restrictions. I use it while in Thailand to view Netflix and listen to Pandora. Both of those sites normally would be restricted if visited outside the US.

Here's another anti new Firefox! Still can't find my History!! (Having trouble getting rid of all those porno sites I visit!!) (That's a joke!!! World really needs a sarcasm font!!) And for some reason ASK (which I really dislike) keeps trying to replace Google as my default! Several other small problems but I'm a man and can take it!!

CTRL-H .... just like it's been forever...

Help works great too ... look up keyboard SHORTCUTS.

Then, there's this little menu item called "History" nestled right between "VIEW" and "Bookmarks."

Underneath "View" is "Sidebar" which has "history" as a menu option.

If the menu bar isn't visible, Right click over a where a tab could be but isn't, and chose "Menu Bar." Then, use the above information.

As for your search engine, at the far left in the search window is the icon for the search engine and a down arrow. Click on it and make your choice.

I'll try control H. I did find the icon for the default search engine. Have chanced it back to Google several times but for some reason either ASK or some other engine comes up after a while. I'm old and hate change!
