how to prevent Producer 6 trial from becoming the default.

Postby Rosemary » Sun Mar 09, 2014 2:36 pm

Recently I downloaded the trial version of Producer 6 and was annoyed that it suddenly became the default no matter how I tried to make Producer 5 the default :?
This is the advice that Jared at Photodex gave me and it works. I hope it is of use to someone else too. I had got as far as making the separate folder but didn't know about unchecking the options as Jared advised - hence the problem.

Thank you for contacting Photodex. If you want to install another instance of ProShow on your machine but you don't want it to override your existing version, please go through the following. During the ProShow installation process, when you get to the "Destination Folder" stage, in the "Folder" field, alter the default path. I would suggest something like "C:\Program Files\Photodex\ProShowProducer6" to indicate the "build" you are installing. Then, in the next step of the installation, in the "Additional Options" window, uncheck those three options: "Create a Start Menu icon", Create a Desktop icon" and "Create a Quick Launch Bar icon".

Then, you can create a shortcut to that version by doing the following. First, go into the folder in which you installed ProShow. For example, if you used the installation path suggested above, go to "Start" > "Computer" > "C:" > "Program Files" > "Photodex" > "ProShowProducer6". Then, look for "proshow.exe", right-click on it and choose "Send To" > "Desktop (create shortcut)" which should create a shortcut to that file on the Desktop. Then look on your Desktop for that new shortcut, right-click on it, choose "Rename" and name it something like "ProShow 6" or whatever you like.

I hope that information helped and if you require further assistance, please let us know.

Kind Regards,

Jared

Yep - you can have multiple versions installed at the same time - just install them into different directories. (you could have emailed me Rosemary :D )
