Paul Harvey/Dodge - "So God Made A Farmer"

Postby debngar » Mon Feb 04, 2013 7:38 am

Of the commercials I saw yesterday during the Superbowl, this was my favorite for its effective simplicity in visual display, beautiful images and heart-moving storyline which had me glued to the screen from beginning to end.

This was my favorite ad. It had a story line that grabbed your attention and kept it. Where would we be without farmers?

Dead-last in the Superbowl ads - Go Daddy. I found that ad downright disgusting.

I don't assume this was missed by all that many people since the Super Bowl is such a big event. But I thought it a good one to share as a successful example of "less is more". I would be proud to be the creator of such a timeless masterpiece that depicts the spirit of America's heartland.

I didn't see the Go-Daddy commercial yesterday, but my husband told me he was as disgusted with that one too!

...It had a story line that grabbed your attention and kept it...

And now, for the rest of the story. ;)

So true, and that's the "secret" to a really good, memorable show, presentation, commercial, etc. -- tell a story. There is no other single thing that will have such a positive impact on whether the audience relates to and remembers it.

If I have a good story to start with, the process of putting together a show around that story seems to fall into place naturally. Without that foundation, there's more need for effects to try to maintain audience attention. Call me old fashioned, but that's ok. I'll take a good story over effects any day. Probably is one reason I'm not drawn to movies with poor storyline and lots of gratuitous exlosions and fluff which are easily forgotten the moment that kind of movie is over.

I only caught bits and peices of the game so thankfully it was during those times that I, too, watched the Dodge commercial. LOVED IT! Thanks for posting Debbie. It is a great ad.

Never watch the Super Bowl but I'm always interested in seeing the commercials.

Is this Paul Harvey? He passed away in 2009 didn't he? Seems like I remember that he had trained someone else to do his radio 'spots' in very much the way he had always done them - they sounded a bit like each other Mr. Harvey and his replacement.

Great commercial either way.

I didn't take the time to read every word on the page at the link below but think the recording may have been in the archives. It's from a speech Paul Harvey first presented in 1978 at an FFA convention.

Here's the rest of the story.... :D
