I saw a bit of this problem a few days ago for a short time but now all seems ok.

On a semi-related note, I've had a bit of trouble downloading entire install files for something I recently bought from Photodex. After checking with my local Internet Provider support person and changing my connection from Wifi to hardwired to the internet, I wonder if the slowdown may be the Christmas rush increasing traffic to Photodex's servers and slowing the process. It only helped a tiny bit to disable my anti-virus program while I downloaded. Finally got the entire download, very slow, but got it all. :|

Maybe Christmas is taking its tole on internet traffic here too.

Debbie, I hadn't thought about that, but you may be right. My understanding is that more gift shopping is being done on the internet than ever before.

Mikey, do you ever sit back and muse about all the dependence there is on the internet and associated connections? All finance now given over to electronic data. What would happen to money? It's hardly more than smoke as it is, but what if it all suddenly went up in very real smoke? How would the IRS dip into our pockets? How would the politicians get their bribes? Now those are interesting thoughts.

Hey, I was going to say that

Both my kids are in college and take the world being networked for granted. I still remember running around with boxes of punch cards and feeling like a member of the elite to even be able to submit a job on punch cards (of course when the card reader ate your deck and you had to re-punch the cards, it was NOT a happy time !! ).

I must be younger than you Mikey (how I wish), or a late starter. All I remember is rewinding a few hundred feet of paper tape! Nothing was worse than tearing a tape, and having to splice it, when in a hurry. :D

Now that is 'lag time'.

Ah yes, the days of paper tape. If it was really important, you would get it punched in mylar tape instead of the oiled paper tape. Somewhere downstairs, I still have a paper tape reader - really !!

Barbara,
The problem is extremely severe over here today. I certainly
hope Mike is aware of what is going on. Today the site is even
difficult to open.

Have a nice day

Yes, Jean-Paul, it's crawling here, too, and it's the only site where it's happening for me. I'm willing to bet Mike might not be able to do anything about it. The server is the more likely culprit.

My guess is the same server that handles this forum handles lots of other web sites as well and one of them may have either been recently added or something resulting in lots of traffic - the problem on the freeway isn't you, it is all those other fools out there at the same time

Shared server space means we never know who will move into the neighborhood.

The site's been loading fine here, but your observations are noted. If you continue to have issues please let me know.

Just an FYI, part of the reason why the hosting for the site isn't cheap is because it's on a dedicated server, so no load sharing issues.

Mike

Hello, Mike! I assume you and Rotchana are now settled in as much as can be expected within a week, the ordeal just a memory. :D

This is the only site I've had problems with. Thinking it might be Firefox, I tried Chrome, which is definitely a faster browser, but even there, the site loaded slower than expected. Could it be time for housecleaning?
