Laptop Suggestions for Producer
Hi Everyone,
I have had Producer for 3 years...I am at the point where I would like to invest in a new laptop. I currently have a Sony Vaio.
I have been creating many shows - and would like to invest in a laptop that has speed and the right mechanics to run my shows efficiently.
Any suggestions on the laptops u have that are compatible with Producer>>>>
Thanks

Adding to what Merlin has said, make sure the dedicated video card has at least a gig of its own memory.
Why a laptop, by the way? Lack of space for a desktop? The latter can be both cheaper and more versatile, though it sure isn't mobile. Just one woman's opinion, of course.

I have a Vaio with an i7 QuadCore, 8 GB ram, 1gB nVidia GeForce w/CUDA running a full 1080P display. It works well with ProShow. Though it has a BluRay player, I wish it had a burner instead.

Vernon, can you pull out the BluRay and replace it with a burner?

Unfortunately Sony does not offer a replacement drive. In the past there have been some drives that are plug-in compatible. But rather than do that I would more than likely buy an external USB drive. One more thing to carry, but no fiddling with the guts of the machine required. I have one that I use now on my desktop, but it would be great to not have to transfer files.

Are you saying Sony is no longer placing "standard" drives in any of their laptops or is it only in the one you chose as being correct for you in every other way?

Re: Laptop Suggestions for Producer
Barbara,
The machine I have does have a standard DVD Burner/Blu-ray player. What I was looking for was a Blu-ray burner. But I think you have hit on the future. More and more people are streaming files and the days of physical discs are numbered. In fact, Apple, in their most current MacBook Pro makes the DVD an external add-on. The transition has already started and likely to accelerate. Now the manufacturers can charge you extra for something that used to be standard. What is wrong with that picture ?
