I need advice

Postby HunnyB » Fri Sep 28, 2007 6:35 am

Every time I go to a website to download something like a free music file,
and it says to right click and save target as -----
I cannot do it. It shows up but is dimmed.
I am using Explorer 7.

What should I do???

THat has the smell of one of the security settings. I don't have
IE7 (nor am I an a rush to try it :? ). In IE6, under Tools -> Internet Options
there is a security settings tab and if you click the "Advanced" button, you can
set all sorts of things - there is probably something similar in IE7. Maybe
someone else here who uses IE7 can help more.

Use Firefox.:) Seriously though, mikey is on the right track. It is probably your security settings but more specifically it's Content Advisor. In IE7 it's under Tools, then Internet Options, then Content. If Content Advisor is on there will be a button that says Disable. Just press that to turn it off or if you're feeling really braze you can try turning it off in Settings. That's where my knowledge on the subject ends however. Hope this helps.

I meant to say brave not braze.

Just adding to Tracy's comments:

While you are in the Internet Options menu, go to the Advanced Tab and Reset IE Settings. This can sometimes cure anomilies.

HunnyB, Tracy might have added a grin to the advice to use Firefox, but you might consider it seriously anyway. I waved goodbye to Explorer after a number of troubles, the last of which was when it tried to tell me that my own web pages that I'd created by my own little self and that were sitting on my hard drive were somehow suspicious. That did it. I downloaded Firefox and haven't looked back since. There's nothing new to learn with it because it looks pretty much like Explorer. The difference is that it doesn't leap up and try to protect you from all the monsters it believes are lurking beneath the bed.

I only use IE when I am forced to, like the DJ Chat won't work anywhere else. Netscape is my browser of choice.....Have a great weekend all, cheers Jan

I hate being "hepp'd" :? If you look at the defaults, Microsoft is
completely trustworthy --- everybody else out there is suspect.
What they need is to flip a bit to invert that selection :D

Glad that worked.
