Web Shows will not play

Postby CaGaPeach » Sat Aug 18, 2007 7:44 am

Using IE or Firefox, the web shows from PSP 3, all of a sudden will not show. I had my sister across the USA from me try it and she can no longer view them either. Some of the shows were created in previous versions and one was created in the newest version 1974.

I would appreciate any help y'all can provide.

Oh, how embarassing . . . You guys are so professional and I am everything but a pro!

However, I really need help, so here it is:

www.cherylandgeorge.com

Click on Travel
Click on Hawaii or Alaska to test

We just tried it again on two different computers on IE and Firefox and no show. This has been working great for weeks as I am learning and yesterday is the first day with problems.

Thanx for taking the time,
Cheryl

It started no problem ( Alaska) but now it's buffering. The link above is about putting vidoe on your web with out Presenter. One little thing, when I clicked on Travel I was waiting to see the words Alaska or Hawaii. Just my perception....or did the page not load right. cheers Jan

I will definitely look at these web video suggestions. Some of my family were concerned when they had to install the Presenter viewer in order to see the shows.

I just tested Firefox and the names of the little red dots show up (i.e., Hawaii, Alaska), but it doesn't in IE! That's probably a Web Studio problem? Web Studio is web site building for dummies. So, I'm assuming you used IE?

I'm still perplexed as to how you got these to play. As I said earlier, they have always played just fine for everyone until yesterday.

Thank you so much for the video suggestions.

You have brought up another question. All my web files are on my personal web space, not Photodex. So, even though I have not uploaded to Photodex, the shows are dependent on Photodex in order to play? Or, maybe I just misunderstood.

Alaska is 27 mb and Hawaii is 33mb.

All is so appreciated,
Cheryl

Yes, unless you have turned them into movies, flash etc....you are still coming from the Photodex site. check out my web page. I made mine into movies and my site designer compressed and loaded them. No Presenter or Photodex.....cheers Jan

I was able to view your shows via Firefox and IE on machines that already had the most recent Presenter plug-in installed. On machines that have IE running, but either don't have the plug-in or an older version, the shows won't play. In addition, there is no prompt to either install the plug-in or update to the newest version. I've spoken to Photodex about this and they believe it's related to recent Microsoft updates that are causing the problem. Apparently the issue is with the fact that shows not hosted at Photodex still rely on the Active X plug-in from Photodex so they can be viewed. Microsoft deems this a security issue since you're requesting an Active X file from an outside source. What's strange is that if you go to a show on a pc that isn't updated you get a blank screen. If you then go to the Photodex area for sharing shows you get prompted for the plug-in. If you ignore the option to install or update the plug-in and then go back your own page you will be prompted at that point.

Anyhow, Photodex is looking into it. Obviously sharing your shows from your own site is a nice feature and they need to find a workaround to keep that option available. Maybe one more reason to use Firefox? :D

I hope all this makes sense.

Now that is strange Cheryl, they both play perfectly to me using IE7 and an older version of Presenter (I get the 'newer version available' from the Photodex site when using Presenter there, but haven't updated  ).

I wonder if it is within the IE settings? My XP updates are current.

In 'Internet Properties > Programs > Manage Add-ons' the Presenter add-on is 'Enabled', is yours disabled by any chance.

Just tried to check which version of Presenter I'm running, but can't find it :!: , but it's the one before the latest if that's any help.

Hi, Brian:

I checked in IE and the program is enabled. I uninstalled the new Presenter and installed the older version and sometimes in Firefox I could play the shows, but not ever time. When I uninstalled the old version of Presenter and tried to install the new one again, I'm not even able to install it.

Had to reinstall PSP 1974 again which installed the new Presenter too. Then . . . In Firefox my shows will play as long as I go to the Sharing site at Photodex and begin to play one of the spotlighted shows first and then go to one of my shows which will play. My shows will only play if I visit the Sharing shows first!!! That seems so strange.

Mike:

I think you are right-on! There was an XP update a couple days ago. Thank you for talking to Photodex. This is pretty discouraging because I anticipate it happening every time MS does updates. I'm going to review my other options like Jan suggested. I had tried the Flash option in PSP but the files were so very big and the images so small on the web pages.

This is all pretty new to me and I thank you all for jumping right in to help. I wonder if HoneyB is having the very same problem I am because of the Photodex vs Microsoft Active X? Sounds like it.
