Postby shelbydog » Thu Aug 16, 2007 5:58 am

Anyone having trouble viewing this website? When I try to access from home using Netscape, I get a time out error? The only way I can view this website is from work using Mozilla.

There is an IP problem

Postby cherub » Thu Aug 16, 2007 6:24 am

Yes, I have the same problem, regardless of the browser being used. (I use Firefox too)

See the announcement made by the forum administrator:
ProShow Enthusiasts Forum Index » News and Announcements » Site Access

Presently I am accessing the forum through a proxy site:
http://www.zend2.com/

You might try to do the same, until this problem is solved.

Apparently, there is a range of IP addresses that are being
blocked for some reason (usually as a result of someone getting
a bit aggressive in stomping on spam sites).

What I want to know is ... who is this "Fritz" guy -- he
seems to cause more trouble than Murphy !!

I think its about the internet connection and perhaps traffic on the site. Sometimes I have the same problem...like yesterday. Like it says.....try again later. Today, everything's fine.

You can always run into the situation of a busy network and "try
again later", but these have been cases of the IP's being blocked.
If you do a ping to your destination, it simply times out and if you
try tracert, you will see that at some point it gets dropped. Even
Mike Gregg (site owner for here) was unable for a while to get in
directly and had to go another route. Somebody somewhere has
blocked a bunch of IP's -- probably in an attempt to stomp on some
prolific spam generation sites.

Yeah, I just sent Mike an email -- it looks like only some of Comcast is being
blocked since I am also on comcast and have had no issues (maybe they
just haven't caught up to me yet !! )

I have been talking to Cherub and she is having to go through
some sort of proxy server to be able to access the list because
she is also in the blocked range of IP addresses. The worst part
of this is the one they were trying to stop, probably had a back
door into where they were "phishing" from and it has had virtually
no impact on them -- but it sure has scrambled things up for a
bunch of other people !!

For those familiar with the old TV series M*A*S*H, remember the
time someone screwed up and accidentally declared Hawkeye dead?
Simple mistake --- took them many weeks to finally un-screw it again :?
