Well, one more tidbit - tried it on the living room computer (different Asus
motherboard - P4TE I think) and different ATI video card (8500 something).
Still crashed on Carosel show at the front same way. Since I had not had
presenter installed on that machine before, it had to install it which eliminates
any possibility there was something left over from a previous presenter
install. Sigh. Time to move on -- shows for some friends on the swim team
to hurry up and get done (just short 5 minute shows).

Solution for shows that hang while attempting to view

Postby debngar » Wed Jul 25, 2007 5:16 pm

I could not view the Photodex demo I saw on the website. Sometimes other people's shows would also give me fits too.

http://www.photodex.com/sharing/spotlig ... ample.html

It would hang up in the same exact place each and every time I attempted to view it mid-way into the show at the slide where the girl with the dark hair is wearing a lacy mask over her eyes.

I reported it to Photodex and we have a solution! If this has been happening to you, check the "Help>About" in PRODUCER to see what version of the PRESENTER you are using. I had 3.0 1942 of Producer but 3.0 1924 of Presenter installed.

I now have the current PRESENTER 3.0 1942 installed and working which has
solved my viewing problems for the time being. Mandy from Photodex called
me on the phone to clarify the process.

For those of you who have been having trouble viewing shows, there is a bug
in the PRESENTER version that you download from the website if you get it by itself. It is not the current version.

This may sound redundant but it worked...

Uninstall Presenter AND
Uninstall Producer

Download Producer 3.0 1942 from THIS area of the website ONLY (to your desktop).

http://www.photodex.com/downloads/go_pr ... ducer.html

Disable all your anti-virus and firewall stuff before installing Producer
and disconnect from the internet.

Install Producer ONLY. This will also install the correct version of PRESENTER 3.0 build 1942.

(Do not download or install Presenter from their link to the Presenter
Plug-in - it is the older version with the bug.)

Reboot your machine and launch Producer (WITHOUT enabling your anti-virus
yet) so it can re-establish those 2 little data files it needs to run
properly.

Then you can re-enable your anti-virus and re-establish your connection to
the internet.

I can now view that demo show I've had trouble with viewing. It no longer
hangs. I can now also view Mike's dice demo show with no
trouble. :D

Oh oh -- now you've gone and done it -- I'm still running Producer version
1923 and it has been very stable so I was avoiding some of the grumbles
I had been hearing on 1942. You have now made it very tempting
Of course, one has to ask -- if they know that 1923 is buggy and they have
presenter 1942 available, why isn't it on their website for download as the
latest version. Yeah, I know - it doesn't have to make sense

OK, I have a shot at it. Thanks for the feedback !!

I asked the same question. I was told this will be fixed eventually. :?

You will get the correct version of Presenter automatically with Producer if you just download Producer and load that. Don't bother downloading and installing the Presenter by itself. That's all I know.

It's nice that the problem has been solved. I have been so frustrated by lengthy download times and now this doesn't happen either - for now anyways! Yeaaaaaah. :D

I also tested this on a recent show of Mark Ridout's I was trying to view. Previously using the old Presenter, it would not even load for me. Now it loads in about 20 seconds - 73 MB!

YES !!! :D :D

I kiss your feet !!

That was the issue. Let's see -- they knew the one on the download
web page was buggy and had a new version, they didn't tell anyone
about it and they want to know what we think of their support/product
(the questions that pop up when you un-install it). Duh !!!

I was hoping that someone would tumble to the issue and you
fixed it for us ! Thanks Debbie!

Postby hardsoftware » Wed Jul 25, 2007 6:13 pm

And I am still using version 1935 so perhaps I should just go ahead and do 1942...thanks Debbie!

ROTFL

Mikey,

I can't take credit really but am glad to share something that worked. I didn't figure it out. I reported to the PR people that the demo wasn't viewable and thought maybe they might care enough to do something about it. Most everyone else that tried it in one of the other ProShow groups couldn't view it either. So I figured it must be something on their end.

They in turn reported it to their support people and eventually we got a fix.

By the way, I also reported to them today an additional bug I found a week or so ago. If you try to crop a picture but use the rotate feature within the crop window, it will not crop your photo. If you hit ok and then done, you can see it doesn't crop it right, if at all.

They didn't know about that one. It is not something most people would use frequently so it would be easy to miss I suppose.

Hopefully it will be fixed in the next build/version, whatever.

Ben,

Yes, I would say use 1942. Uninstall BOTH programs and just install Producer only from that link I posted and it should do the trick. Make sure you disable your anti-virus, etc when installing, reboot after installation, keep anti-virus uninstalled untill you open Producer again for the first time. Then you can turn it all back on.

Check the versions of both Producer and Presenter after your new install. They should BOTH be version 3.0 build 1942.

Hope that works.

Is this just an impression but it seems that the output quality is better with this "new" Presenter ?
