Problem Collecting Show Files - layers emty

Postby carlor » Thu Oct 23, 2014 3:54 am

Hi
I use PSP 6 and have problems when running Collect Show.
All files is stored OK in selected folder, but when I run the * .psh file, all layers are empty.
I have to "fill" the layers manually to get it work.
Do anyone else has this problem?

This can happen if the collected files have moved. If the paths to the show files are not exactly as they were when collected, then the associated images will have to be found again.

Hi Debbie
Thanks for coming backk to me.
No it is not the case.
I run Collect and get the message "ProShow is done Collect your show - - - - - -"
Then I choose "Use Collected Show".
Then when I run the show I just get gray fields (placeholders?).
If I click on a slide to see the layers, they are all empty.
The files in the original show are in different locations from the beginning, but that's why I'm running Collect.
OK?

I forgot to say all the files are there in their respective folders, but the link to the layers are missing

The psh file points to the folders and files that were created during the collection and no longer points to where they first resided. If the folder with all those files are moved then they have to be found to reconnect them and probably good to do a quick psh file resave too.

If the set of folders created during a collect hasn't been moved, then I'm not sure why you're seeing grey placeholders. O_o :(

Hi
I have made a new simple test with only three slides without layers, and saved the *.psh file along with the original pictures.
When I Collect to a separate folder and run, I just got black slides. Like before there are generated 3 new folders and the pictures is copied to the image folder.
I guess the grey placeholders are generated by far more complex multilayers in my first test.
My problem is still there.
I am running Win7 x64 but everything else seems to work OK so I don’t think it should be the reason.

NEW INFO:
I have compared the 2 * .psh files using DiffChecker.
Three line in the original file that shows the image's location, is completely absent in the collect file !!!!!
Here is an example of one of the lines missing:
cell [0] .images [0] .images = .. / .. / .. / .. / .. / .. / .. / D: / ProShow / PICTURES for show / AndElva_05_60x43_sign.jpg
This means that the fault lies in the generation of the new * .psh file.
The question now is whether it is just my installation in Win7 x64, or if others with the same configuration has this error?

SOLUTION :D :D :D
I think I found the cause.
The path to collect the files are too long so that the program can not generate the paths in the new * .psh file.
When I put Collect folder on the Desktop everything works OK.
Perhaps somebody pass this information to Photodex :?:

Going forward, maybe try shorter, more efficient names for folders. I've not had trouble like this and use Windows 7 64-bit.

Others may have additional thoughts.

This forum isn't run by Photodex. If you think they would be interested in your findings, contact their support department via phone or email. They're usually good at responding.

I did pass a pointer to this along to Photodex so they should be aware of it. One of the easiest ways for you to report this is to (with your test show open) go to the "Help" menu in Producer or Gold and "report a problem" - it will ask for some information and you can feed it to that way (they also respond well to both email and phone support issues unlike many companies I have dealt with !!)

Carl - if you have the example files you created showing the issue, Photodex is interested in the problem. The best thing to do is send an email to their support with the two example psh files attached and an explanation of what you are experiencing. They are usually good about responding to email. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Mikey
After I have been working on a bug report in English to Photodex for at least one hour, I should reproduce the error to get copy of the files as attachments.
I used the exact same locations as before, but believe me or not. It was not possible to recreate the same situation. Everything worked 100% by the book. :?:
There have not been any changes in the configuration or programs on this computer since I discovered the problem, it’s not even rebooted.
I consider myself a fairly experienced computer user, since I built my first computer back in the nineties, and have some programmer experience back in the last century to (maybe that explains it all)
Should the problem arise again, I will keep you informed.
