When you try to create a completely new show, or just when you try to open an existing show?

If Producer crashes when you try to open an existing show, close Producer and from Windows, try to delete the file
myshow.pxc (this is a file that has the name that you gave to your show, and has the extension pxc. It is located in the same directory on your computer, where you saved your show. This is a cache file, that sometimes get corrupted, and if you delete it, Producer will recreate it, when you reopen the program.
Make sure that you DON"T delete the file named "myshow.psh (extension psh) because that is your actual show.

If Producer crashes when you try to open a new show, then try to delete the files:
proshow.cfg
and proshow.phd

These two files are located in the program directory.
This will cause Producer to revert to its defaults.

I'm so bummed
I got all excited because it got as far as when I was to add the music and then crashed again.
This keeps happening when I'm trying to create a new show.
I deleted those two files you listed in the program directory but still no luck.
Any other suggestions?

In addition to Mona's suggestions, it may help to do frequent saves while editing a show. so you don't lose work if it locks up. For some reason, the program can sometimes start acting up, become slow to perform, slow to save. When that happens, I typically will hit save then close the show and reopen it to continue. If that doesn't get rid of the sluggish performance, I save the show and exit the program completely. It could be the program leaks RAM memory and doesn't release it, but I can't be totally sure about that. Frequent saves seem to keep lock up problems and unexpected shut downs to a minimum for me.

I also would check your anti-virus program and set it to accept any exe show files that are associated with Proshow and the Proshow Presenter. If you find the need to reinstall Proshow, turn all that off until the program is opened once again.

Another thing to try is turning off GPU acceleration in Preferences. When Producer 5 first came on the scene, I was having any number of problems that could only be solved by turning off acceleration until I replaced my old video card with a much faster one.

Where is the GPU located in Preferences?
Does it say GPU or is that an abbreviation for something?
I don't understand. It was working perfectly fine until last night.
I have a big project deadline and I'm getting really nervous!

Is it possible some of your content is causing problems. Try using different content. Photos music or videos.
If it ain't broke , don't fix it !

If it was working all along and now it isn't, then GPU acceleration isn't the problem. But regardless, if you go to the Edit menu and select Preferences down at the bottom, you'll be greeted with a large set of things you can adjust in Producer to your liking, so if you haven't checked it out, you should. Also, if you click on Playback, you'll find GPU acceleration.

Since you've tried everything that's normally the way to fix problems without anything being fixed, it sounds as if there's something inside your show that's giving Producer fits as "Osharr" has mentioned. Unfortunately, this is often a very difficult thing to find. More often than not, it's a single slide. Save the show under a different name and then switch to the copy. Start deleting slides in and around the area where Producer seems most likely to crash, and if after deleting one of those slides, the crashing stops, you may well have found the culprit.

WOW! That's exactly what it was.
Apparently it didn't like a gif file I had in there. I wasn't aware I couldn't use them.
I tried a different set of images and it worked fine.
So then I figured out it must have been that one gif file because the rest of them are jpegs.
I am so relieved!
I was all ready to uninstall the whole program and then reinstall it.
But I have a bunch of styles and transitions so that would be been frustrating.
Especially since it would have still crashed.
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!
This site is the best!!

Producer supports gif files, and this should not have been a problem.
There must have been something else wrong with that specific file, that caused Producer to choke on it :D

But I'm glad you solved your problem. :D

Is there anything better than a happy ending? No, there isn't.
