Pro Show wont find dvd drive

Postby angusforbes » Fri Aug 03, 2007 10:01 am

I've written loads of shows and saved them to DVD with no problem but just tonight it wont find the DVD writer. I get a message saying please wait until we find the dvd player but after a while it times out.

Nero still works so I dont think the problem is with the Writer.

Any suggestions

Thanks

Angus

Two things come to mind -- first, you say "Nero still works" - did you
check to see if Nero was able to write a DVD or just a CD ?? They
use different lasers and I have seen cases where the drive could still
handle CD's but no longer knew what to do with DVD's. Second, there
is always the old un-install/re-install that seems to fix a number of
people's problems. That is all that comes to mind off hand. You
might try writing to an ISO instead and see if either Nero or
the free imgburn will write it to the DVD.

Hi Mikey,

Yep, tried that wrote a dvd no probs and have also uninstalled and reinstalled the software. The drive shows in the pane on the left hand side but when I click write show to dvd it goes looking for a drive but eventually hangs.

I'm right in the middle of trying to get a wedding dvd to a couple who leave tomorrow

Help

The easiest (and probably safest) for getting something out tomorrow
is to from your drive menu, select "iso writer" - save the show as
an ISO then use either Nero or the free imgburn to burn a DVD from
that. Make sure if you use Nero to burn the DVD that you burn it as
an image instead of the common mistake of burning the iso as a file
to a normal file system !! In Nero 5, from the file menu, select
"burn image" - from the dialog box, make sure iso is one of the types
listed, browse to the place you saved the iso and there you go.

Good luck !

Hi Mikey,

I am not sure what you mean by drive menu. I would expect the software to go and list the dvd drives on my machine and allow me to select one but it cant find any.

Cheers

Arg -- I think we are between a rock and a hard spot here. When
you click on the "Create DVD" it does the "finding drives" thing THEN
comes up with the burning menu -- in there, you can select what drive
to use - one of the options is for an ISO Writer (image file on your
hard drive you can burn a dvd from later). Unfortunately, you
seem to be stuck getting to that page. One thing you might try --
see if briancbb's comments near the end of this thread help - it has
been an issue before a number of times ...

Hi Mikey,

Just to tell you that I woke up this morning and it seems to be working fine again. Nothing different but it works so I'll take it.

Thanks for your support, help and suggestions.

Cheers

Glad you "fixed" it :D

I hate those types -- you never know just when they will
show up again (although you can fairly accurately predict it -
the likelyhood of it showing up is directly proportional to how
bad you need the system to work right -- it is called a
"crisis detection" circuit -- all computers seem to have them)

I am having the same problem. It will find the drive and tell me to put a disk in the burner. When I do this the program hangs up and then closes and exits. If I put the dvd disk in the drive first, then PSG never finds the drive???

Can you write a DVD from a different application (like Nero) or
does that also fail?
Try the option of "writing" an ISO file (in the menu where you
select your drive, ISO writer is one option) and use the free
imgburn utility to see if you can write it. At this point, it is not
yet clear if it is a drive problem or something hosed in Producer.
Let us know what works.
