Baseball Show

Postby toad » Fri Aug 10, 2007 7:13 am

I wanted to share the video I made for my son's baseball season. I am proud of the success of this team. It is a season recap ending with the higlights of the championshiip game. It is 13 mins long. If you like the thrill of victory try to watch it to through the end. This team was sort of a Cinderella story. When my husband went to the first practice he was skeptical and worried about what he had to work with. (no pitiching and a few kids that had never played before.) At the end of the season, we still didn't have the most talented team but we had a great team. They worked hard, practiced hard and got better as the season went on.

Hope you enjoy.

Hey Toad -- hadn't seen you for a while - thought maybe you croaked or something

Very nice show (it's tough trying to make a baseball show captivating :) )

Very well done, and great photo's -- I liked the way it fit together and in
this case, the number of transitions helped (well for me anyway).

Couple of comments to think about
1) I would consider not showing their last names when you post a show - maybe
I'm just paranoid and in general, this is a good bunch, but the less information
you can give the idiots the better (leave the names in for the show you give
the parents obviously).

2) Something I expected to see and was surprised when I didn't was a couple
shots as they hit the ball with a "crack" sound effect in there.

3) I liked the video included - you might want to check into a monopod -
inexpensive, easy to carry and does a great job of adding some stabilization
to the camera (them little suckers are VERY difficult to not move when shooting).

4) Another "for us but probably not the parents" idea -- you showed the scoreboard
a number of times which was very good -- unfortunately, for most of us, we can't
remember which side we are on :D -- possibly consider a caption that displays
over the correct side of the scoreboard just saying "us" or something for a couple
of the shots until you get "us" trained :D

Again, I thought it was a very good show -- baseball is a tough one to create
a show for that holds peoples attention!

Toad,

Great show--it will be an excellent keepsake of their winning season.

I really liked the fast cycling of slides in the second section that showed action on the field--evoked energy.

The "funk" music in that section didn't grab me, but the kids will love it. Generational thing. You did well to select it. I'm too much of an old fart to be brave enough to include it in a show I might do for my nephews!

The black/white slides between the videos didn't work for me. b/w doesn't evoke "winning" for me.

The winning hit video is priceless. Wish I was there.

The dissolve of the team photo to their hands raised in #1 was brilliant. Nicely done.

Thanks for viewing and the comments.
Mikey, I had the afterthought of the kids last names. I agree and have uploaded the show without the last names.

I would like to use the crack of the bat sound but haven't found one yet. As for the scoreboard, we are home team. I did place a home sign but I guess I wasn't thinking about others viewing and that it might be confusing.

I am took most of the pictures and the video and don't claim to be good. I should take your advice about the monopod. However, as an excited mom, jumping up and down, I may get the same effected even with a monopod  .

Ken - The black and white photos were not intentional. I have two cameras. One is a digital Canon point and shoot and the other is my old 35 mm Canon EOS. (I want to purchase a new digital but my incentive is to sell enough videos to pay for it.) I ran out of color film and all I had was black & white left, therefore, the reason for the black and white photos.

Thanks again
Ann

Sheesh !! I didn't realize you could even get B/W film any more
(I used to go through it in 100 foot rolls and do my own developing - still
have my tanks etc too !! ).

As far as a monopod goes, it is absolutely amazing how much it will
stabilize the small cameras - I can shoot my Sony at the full 18x
optical zoom of the kids in their music concerts so that their face fills
the viewfinder and it is still quite stable (try that with the little hand
held ones.) The monopod makes it a much longer "moment" if you
will on the pivot so while side to side panning is not affected much, the
up and down (as well as tilt) is dampened out considerably. Not as
good as a tripod, but a whole lot easier to carry and takes up a lot
less space (works well for the still cameras as well). Take your
video camera to a camera store and try one of the monopods on it
with the camera fully zoomed - I think you will like the effect !

For the "Crack" of the bat, send me a pm with a valid email address
and I will send you one (actually a branch breaking - but it sounds right)
You can use my real email: mr.gadget2 at comcast.net

Toad-

I liked your show very much. I liked the way the photos changed with the tempo of the music. Nice timing. I thought your choice of music was great. Some won't like it, but I do and I think the boys will as well. Your show took me back some 30 years. Wow! Did I just say 30 years?

Good job. Look forward to seeing more from you. Who did the song "Right Here Right Now"?

Thanks Toad.

I guess I could have asked my 14 yr old daughter, but I would have gotten that rolled eyes to the back of the head with hands on the hips look.

Thanks again,

Scott
