Fun around the pool ..

Postby gpsmikey » Sun Aug 05, 2007 3:34 pm

OK, here is a short one I have been working on - I put together a
number of DVD's for some of the other parents of the kids on the
swim team and have a header (1 minute) and trailer (15 seconds) that
I stick on also. The middle section is made up of pictures of the kids
for that family -- here is the middle section for our family with my
son and daughter. Only 3 minutes, but 32 meg since it has 113 slides
(nobody can accuse me of it being too slow !! ) See what you think :D
(there are a few other pictures in there of their close friends).

Hello Mike,
Nice show. Are you a Nikon guy? What camera do you use? There were some series of photos that looked like we were watching a video. For me the show was wonderful. Are any of these photos from the meet you just came from this weekend? Thanks for sharing.

All the best,
Douglas

I liked the series of quick images in the stroking order too - worked nicely!

Thanks for the comments. It was nothing fancy, but it was fun
and will be fun to look back on later.

Yes, Douglas, Nikon D70s which in general, I love (although I always
seem to have the focus mode in the wrong setting -- just Murphy and
his friends :D ) I have the Sigma 70-300 macro lens (which is about
135 - 450 equiv. for a 35mm camera). For the kids soccer games and
swimming, I usually shoot at ISO 800 to keep the shutter speed up
(either that or big $$$ glass which I ain't gonna get past the budget
director  ) The swim meets were actually fairly difficult to shoot
because the home meets are the shade of the trees about an hour
into the meet and I need a fast shutter speed to stop the action.
I did get some pictures from one meet we had that started at about
10 in the morning and was completely confused with good light !! :D

Boy did that water look refreshing! (Funny how much more refreshing water looks when shot with a Nikon as opposed to a $#@&$#!) It's 96 degrees and the humidity is 66 percent here in beautiful Virginia Beach - I think I'm headed to the oceanfront after viewing that show (I live 7 miles from the oceanfront) to cool down! Thanks Mikey, that was a neat paced show and fun to watch!

Thanks -- one of the things you really have to watch around the
pool like that is some of those kids are some what less than
"clean" divers and can throw up more water than a cannon ball!!
Nothing like a cup of pool water right on top of your camera
(some of those splashes are amazing !! )

mikey (whose camera only got slightly splashed a couple of times - if
I saw it coming, I turned my back to shield the camera - the best that
could happen if I get wet is I shrink !! )

Water on Nikon

Postby alcain » Mon Aug 06, 2007 1:09 pm

Reminds me of a High School Band event I was photographing last year at an evening Football Game. All of the sudden, from nowhere, it started pouring down rain! I tucked my D80 unger my jacket as best I could then... an angel appeared... from the concession stand... one of the consession volunteers saw my plight (said she was in the camera club) and rushed over to me with a gallon sixe ziplock bag! ~al
