Gothia Soccer World Youth Cup 2015 - The Opening Day
Images from the opening day of the world's largest soccer tournament for young people (club teams). It takes place every year in Gothenburg in the middle of July. Since this is our prime summer travel period, I don't get a chance very often to take pictures of this buzzling event that reverberates around the entire city. Almost every school is in use to help accomodate this year's record 1800 teams, translating all in all to about 40 000 visitors in town. The Ullevi Stadium with its capacity of nearly 50 000 is not big enough to seat a modest contingent of the general public plus all teams and officials at the same time. Some clubs are rotated in and out during the opening proceedings, a fast-paced smorgasbord of rock music, more than a hundred dancers plus presentations of teams, countries and some outstanding individuals. Since the start in 1975, the tournament has hosted one million players. The lucky millionth got an award and a rousing ovation, a 13 year old girl from Oakland, California. It seems to go great for women's soccer in the US!
This show's music is by Kim Larsen, the number one pop star in his native Denmark, but highly popular in all of Scandinavia.
It is probably my first show without zooms and pans. And there is only a single slow fade...
Nothing offensive, show time is just under five minutes. The image quality of the Proshow stream is high, file size huge and buffering can be sluggish. Alternatively there is a faster loading stream at a Vimeo site.
Have a good summer
