Lest We Forget WW1

Postby Tonel » Thu Sep 25, 2014 9:47 am

On return to the UK from a recent European trip my wife & I took the opportunity to find the graves of two relatives killed in WW1. The military cemeteries are near Ypres so we also paid a visit to the Menin Gate. Seeing the memorial on StreetView does not compare to seeing it for real. We found it to be quite a moving experience. So much so that I wanted to express it in a show.

Unfortunately we didn't allow enough time to see it fully so we intend to revisit in 2015.

The show runs for just over 10 mins and you might need a hankie.

Having just returned from Ypres where we attended the Menin Gate at 11am-11-11 2014, I find this very moving and a joy to watch. I recognise every place you have shown and more.
We too went in search of a past relative and found him. I'm currently working on my own presentation and hope it lives up to this one.

Thank you for your comments, Andrew. I don't think there can be many people that having visited any part of the Western Front cannot be moved by what they see there. It leaves a lasting impression. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission and local people do a wonderful job tending the sites and paying their respects. I wanted to try to convey that with my show.

We're going to Ypres again in July to attend the Last Post ceremony and do a tour of the sites in the area.
