Smoke Photography

Postby Canuck » Tue Feb 11, 2014 1:22 pm

It has been quite a while now since I have posted any of my shows. Hopefully, I can find the time now to do it more often. I recently gave a workshop on how to photograph smoke from a stick of incense and what you can do with the results. This show is just over 3 minutes long and presents some of the images you can easily produce. I am always grateful for any comments or suggestions on how to improve my presentations etc. Thanks. Hope you enjoy the show.

Oh, the joy of photographing smoke! And the beauty of it, too!

Back in 2007 I smoked up the basement, shining colored light through the smoke, taking photos for many hours. I ended up with fantasy figures, placing them in a slide show built in Gold, which is what I had at the time.

You've done some things I would have done too if only I'd thought to do them. :D

Your show was so much fun to watch.

I agree with Barbara, that was fun to watch. It's intriguing to see the initial serendipitous smoke images, then interesting to see what else they morphed into after you finished adding your creative spin to them. Enjoyed this very much.

Tick

i loved the smoke shots & even more what you did with them.

for me the show was very functional & could perhaps have benefitted from some nice soft transitions & i found the music a little bit distracting. but really it wasn't about the show but the images & I found them to be very beautiful.

thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the comments. Steve, I wonder if there is a particular soft transition that you would suggest? Thanks again...always looking for ways to improve.

Rick

i think various transitions from the image adjustment selection for example...deep zoom, opacity merge & zoom spin, some of the soft spins & basic dissolves might add a little bit of subtle variety. but at the end of the day I like your show & without doubt an incorrect transition can jarr & ruin a simple presentation.

regards

Steve

PS. i watched another of your shows this afternoon "coming out" which had some fantastic images & oob effects. you appear to be a master of that technique, i've tried it but often been less than happy with the end result.

Hello Rick
It is also been some considerable time since I posted anything. But your show did catch my eye and I felt I must comment.
The show was very interesting and the photography indeed very good. It’s not an easy subject to capture, I know I’ve tried.
Well done Rick, nice to see you posting again. I must do something soon.

Kind regards
Jeffery
