The Why, Not What, of Titles

I'm so glad I thought of it.

Actually, the idea came as a tangent on a tangent. For some unknown reason, I was thinking about Stephen King's "The Stand," which is one of his best titles. I got wondering how many possible titles he went through before settling on that one. Then I analyzed the title, and quite suddenly, a key to good titling smacked me in the forehead.
