From "The Art of Disappearing" by poet Naomi Shihab Nye

Walk around feeling like a leaf.
Know you could tumble any second.
Then decide what to do with your time.

That's one of those quotes a person can read several times, each time coming back out of it with a slightly different take.

I've already added it to the General listing, that particular one since it can be interpreted with various tints and shades of meaning.

Thanks, Jim.

Barbara,

"You can't control the wind but you can adjust your sails."

After the weather we have had here in the south this past week, I certainly might see a show of the devastation, heartache, and wonderful recovery efforts that could use Debbie's quote. We had thousands of people, too, who--thankfully--were able to almost literally "adjust their sails" to avoid much harm.

Thanks for the quotes!

Ann

Watching the scary destruction on TV kept me forever thinking about all the members here who live in the south, wondering if everyone was all right. The darned thing is that, if some of them got hit, we have no way of knowing because they'd unlikely be able to get online to tell us about it. :(

Are you ever right about that being a perfect use for Debbie's quote!

Phil, you're more than welcome.

I tripped across yet another group of useful quotes that I'll add the moment I remember to add them while simultaneously remembering which book I discovered them in. I'd blame the problem on age if it weren't for the fact that I've always been like this.

Oh I love this Barbara! You have some really good ones that I have not used before. Applied it to my favorites.

Thanks,

Colleen, adding those quotes to my blog was my own version of bookmarking. I've experienced the kind of thing where I can almost, but not quite, remember a quote that I'd like to use but can't remember for the life of me where I found it. Even when using Bartlett's Book of Quotations, I can't always find it because I may not be remembering the key word, because the quote is too new, or because good old Bartlett didn't like it as much as I did.

I've used a little program called AZZ cardfile. I have a very old version and it's been updated since then. It's free to try.

I store greeting card verses and quotes in it and kept notes in the verses where/when I last used it.

I think there might be a few programs like that one because the whole idea of it sounds really familiar to me. I checked it out, and while looking at it, I realized it would be a snap to set up an Excel file for the purpose, even having a few columns for keywords that could be sorted on.
