Re-size pictures or layers to any proportion

I would like to be able to re-size the main photo or any of the layers to any proportion instead of it keeping the same aspect ratio. ie. re-size a colored layer into a rectangular shape , say in the proportions of 1:10 or 10:1, basically into a thin line. for instance on a map you could make the route transparent & then with a thin red layer underneath you could follow the route by moving the thin red line underneath, you would not have to create a special thin mask but use one general red mask that you could reshape to any proportion, as required.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you have the ability to reshape any image--including the Solids and Gradients--by unlocking the x-y axis in Motion Effects. Just click the little chain-link icon and then reduce either the x or the y to whatever dimension you want right on down to a thin line.

With the map idea, you're better off keeping the solid color a larger size. Otherwise, when the route zigzags, you can end up without any color beneath it.
