Manual/Automatic keyframes POLL

Postby BarbaraC » Mon Jan 18, 2010 8:03 am

A number of us are driven crazy by having to set keyframes to manual for each and every slide. I'm putting up this poll to see if Photodex might consider giving us an option in Preferences.

Ken, your vote doesn't seem to have registered. There's one for Yes (mine) and one for Don't Care.

Ken, I've decided to harass you privately. If you don't straighten out, I'll do it in public.

I've gotten in the habit of clicking start to end then making my adjustments. Would be so nice to pick a default setting. Now if only 5% of the members would do the poll... Don

When I enter a keyframe, it's not always to change position . . . I want one to change opacity or blur only, for instance. I don't want it to have any effect on the position. So, it works just fine for me to make it manual on my terms. Besides, it turns to manual if I change something in the box (unless, sometimes, I'm just typing in a 0) anyway, such as in the pan-x or pan-y.

I can well imagine the answer that we'll get from Photodex, explaining why this is not such a good idea. :D
There are quite a few advantages to "automatic", and personally, I like to at least be able to view the option that is automatically generated by the program, even if in the end, I choose my own position, manually.
I use the option of adding keyframes at the end, and not in the middle, so I do get the manual option all the time, with no special effort on my part.
So, I answered "Don't care".

Those who use automatic all the time or most of the time could choose automatic in Preferences, and those who use manual all the time could choose manual. As long as I've been using Producer, I've had just one instance in which automatic motion just happened by chance to be what I'd planned anyway. Statistically, automatic doesn't work for me in the least, and because I can't change the default, extra steps are required for many, many slides. I realize people have found that adding keyframes at the end works for them, but it doesn't work for me at all because it's just not how this old brain works. If I suddenly decide I want a keyframe in between the current ones of 4 and 5 in a 10-keyframe slide, that's where I want to place it, not at the end.

If they do it as a preference setting, why should anyone object? You can still set it to behave as it does now.

I know what you are getting at Barbara, but the poll should really have been Yes, No, Don't care (three options). Don't care does not really mean No

However I do believe it should be set by a preference so have voted Yes :D
