Camera Settings Demo

Postby nwenban » Sun Dec 07, 2008 12:56 pm

Hi,

For all the newbie camera buffs (inc me) here, have stumbled on these 2 sites that will allow you to take a pic a see what happens with different camera settings.

Thanks Neville. I remember both websites from when I first got my camera and I needed to see what happened when I changed a setting.

I'm not a camera newbie, but I still thought those were great sites!

Once improvement I could think of adding would be to show the histogram changing along with the exposure. That would be demystify the histogram at the same time.

Thanks for sharing.

here is a nice read on the histogram ....

Just remember that there is no "perfect" histogram ... everyone is different. All depends on what is in your frame.

Ben - Do you actually check the histogram while shooting and then make corrections in the camera?

I make my camera exposure adjustments dependent on the histogram. It is an extreamly useful tool that more should learn to utilize.

Yes, the histogram can be very valuable - not only to set the exposure correctly, but so you get a better understanding just what is in those pictures and the range of light and dark. Unfortunately, when you spend much of your "shooting time" shooting a teenage girl's soccer team, I'm lucky if autofocus and autoexposure can track them through a 300mm lens. Ain't got no time for a histogram :D But if you do have the time, the histogram is a very valuable tool - your eyes have a much broader dynamic range than almost all cameras and it takes a while to understand what it can and can't record in a single exposure (of course then the whole thing turns into a discussion on HDR stuff !! ).

Mikey,

I totally agree, I do remember those days of taking soccer pictures and there is barely enough time to breath let alone look at a histogram. Thanks for your comments...
