New Canon 5D

Postby dnmilikan » Sun Sep 07, 2008 2:19 pm

Rumors have been circulating about a new version of the 5D to be released soon. I have heard that it will have 15+ MP compared to the 12.7MP of the present 5D. Canon does have a bit of a teaser ad showing a rim lit right edge of the camera but no full views that I have been able to locate to this point.

I own two of the 5D cameras and several of their L lenses. I have found the existing camera to be adequate to my needs and will probably not upgrade to the new model.

I've been toying with the thought of a 5D as well. Then this new one is coming up so wonder which one to pick. You can now get a 5D for about $1999 with Canon rebate that I've heard. I wonder how much the new one will cost.

Not only do I think this site is one of the best photographic sites on the web but the site owner is a Canon aficionado and you can learn about anything Canon from him. Go to "Whats New" for current info or search his archives for many other topics.

This a a great digital photography website reviewing all cameras

I don't know the cost but would guess that it would be around $3,000 based on the 1DS mark III pricing. The L lenses are very nice. If the availability is anything like the 1DS mark III the new 5D may be in short supply when released.

I am ok with lenses for now with the 24-70 2.8 L and the 70-200 2.8 L IS.

I can still use my 10-22 on my 30D for wide angle shots but if that camera ever bites the dust, I'll have to get the 16-35 for the full frame camera if ever decide to get one.

Greetings debngar,

I definitely want the Canon 5D MkII. However, it needs to get approved by our purchasing dept. my wife.

If I'm lucky, I might be able to get it 1st quarter 2009.

Peace,
Yanis :D

P.S.
I like your arsenal - 30D, 24-70L, 70-200L. I have them as well except for the 10-22.
