Here is my 2 cents. It's all I could afford
No really, I enjoy my D40
. I almost got the D40X
wasn't out yet) but after doing a little research I decided that the D40
was plenty camera for me especially for the price. Some other reasons I decided on the D40
over the D40X
... The D40X
(and now the D60
) are nothing more than a D40
with more pixels. The D40X
have slower shutter speeds with flash outdoors(1/200 vs.1/500). This faster sync speed is invaluable for use with flash outdoors. Both the 10megapixel D40X
have the same size sensor as the less expensive 6MegaPixel D40
, but both have less basic light sensitivity due to the smaller pixels needed that are cramed onto the same-sized sensor.
When it came down to it I really didn't need 10mp. As it turns out 6megaPixel is plenty. Saves a lot of file space. That said, both are great cameras and really light weight compared to the more expensive professional rigs that utiliize full sensors.
