Photoshop Elements on sale today only !!

Sat Apr 07, 2012 8:01 am

For anybody interested in getting either Photoshop Elements 10 or the combo Photoshop and Premiere Elements, Newegg has a special today only of 50% off their regular price. (I found out about it from an email newegg sent me - they keep us repeat offenders notified of "deals" in the hopes we will be back again, credit cards in hand  ) Here is the link if any are interested:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6832105972 (Photoshop Elements 10)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6832105970 (Photoshop and Premiere Elements 10)

Looks like a good deal if you are looking for a pretty good photo editor. Elements is a "lite" version of Photoshop but still has lots of the features. Check it out at http://www.adobe.com for more info and see if it would be what you need. I have no connection to Newegg other than through my VISA card

"... pretty good ... " hmmmm... a little weak, Mikey. IMHO, PSE is an excellent balance of features vs. learning curve. One of the authors who writes about all things Photoshop commented that PSE 9 has more features than the full version did as little as 3-4 years ago, but less learning curve. Don't know the truth of that, but what I do know is that it's definitely the user, not the software that is the limiting factor when it comes to what I can do with it.

Highly recommended but I also recommend you get either or both:

Photoshop Elements, the missing manual if you want a tutorial style book
--or--
The Photoshop Elements Book for Digital Photographers by Kelby.

I particularly like Kelby's books because of his "if you want to do <this>, then here's how" approach. It's not a tutorial in using the software so much as a guide to how to use the software to do stuff with your images.

Anyway, good catch Mikey !

Second the suggestions for Kelby's books. I have a number of them and they are all well written. For those folks more visually oriented, consider a month subscription at http://www.Lynda.com or http://www.TotalTraining.com - both have some excellent tutorials (I have an annual subscription to Lynda.com). Both also have some free tutorials you can watch to see if it is your style. Personally, I love having the reference books, but I learn better watching an example.

[edit] Just looked at Lynda.com - they have two "courses" on Elements 10 totaling about 13 hours  With several "chapters" of each course viewable to guest viewers. I would expect Total Training to have something similar. This is also worth checking out if you already have Elements (or Photoshop etc) - yes, they cover older versions too.

Yep, agree with that -- though you have to put up with his often lame attempts at humor in the intros to the chapters. Worth it however because the man and his co-writers know their stuff.

I guess it is a sign of my warped mind - I get a kick out of his humor (mostly). I read enough microprocessor data sheets etc that I really appreciate a technical document that actually has some humor in it :D

For anyone who reads this but missed out on the special deal, I'd recommend you go get PSE anyway. It's worth it.

But if you flinch at the price, then see if you can still find version 9, it will be at a bargain price and the difference from 9 to 10 isn't so large that should be bothered by getting last years release.

Thanks Mikey! I've been fighting with myself on whether or not I should buy PSE.....but your find helped me make up my mind.

Just got back from Zion National Park and Antelope Canyon in Page AZ. Took lots of pictures and I'm sure that an editing program will help. If you aren't familar with Antelope Canyon, google it. It is awesome.

Take care,

Sue

Another excellent source for learning PSE is Photoshop Elements Techniques www.photoshopelementsuser.com/. For about $50.00 per year you get a magazine and access to ton of information on the web site. Well worth it in my opinion.
