Canon 7D video

I just bought the Canon 7D. What rate do you recommend I shoot the video at for use in Producer shows? 30 or 24 frames per second or something else.

I've only played a little with my 7D and the video feature, but both the 30 fps and the 24 fps settings work fine when placed in shows in Producer. Some will tell you that 24 fps gives you a more "film" like feel, but it's simply a matter of personal taste.

Once you render your show it won't matter what setting the original video was shot with since the finished product will be whatever you set it up as in Producer.

Here's a short video I took last week using the 30 fps setting that I created a short clip with in Producer for my blog:



The time of day wasn't optimal for the best lighting, but I wanted to take a small video of the waterfall before heading back out onto the highway.

To answer your question. The frame rate should be based on your desired final output product. If you want BluRay then you would want 30 fps. If you want DVD then you could choose either 24fps or 30 fps. 24 does give you a product that is nearer what a movie film would be because that is the native film frame rate.

Using Producer, the Blu-Ray output at 1920 x 1080 Progressive only gives you the option of a 24 fps output choice. I've inserted 30 fps and 24 fps video clips into shows and then rendered them to Blu-Ray and they both look great.

Also using Producer, there is no option to set the frame rate in the final output. It will render the video at 29.97 fps. I've created a number of DVDs with video clips inserted of 24 fps and 30 fps with no problems in quality.

I've also output to MP4 video files and used 29.97 fps for most renders, but have also used 24 fps and 30 fps as my choices. They all seemed to work fine with acceptable results.

Admittedly, I'm not a video guru and barely scratch the surface of being a novice, but the above examples are what has worked for me. Others might be able to explain importing videos with different fps settings and what happens when you render to a different fps setting. From my viewpoint I haven't seen anything that causes me any concern. They all looked acceptable to me.
