New stuff coming in Photoshop CS5..

Postby Tarafrost » Sun Apr 04, 2010 7:14 am

The new content-aware fill is phenomenal. It would make short work of filling white corners after you straighten a photo:

Content-Aware Fill

CS5 PS features

Puppet Warp

Who knows what other goodies will be shipping in CS5 Start saving pennies for the CS5 upgrade!

The official announcement of CS5 will be made on April 12th....at which point they will announce when it will be available. Probably late summer or early fall.

I tried Gimp, but the UI is just confusing and unintuitive. I'll stick to Adobe for now, until and if Gimp figures that out.

Wow!! Love the content aware feature! That's awesome! I'm still using CS2 so I'll have to check out what it costs to upgrade. Thanks for the post! I had no idea there would be so many cool new effects! :)

I'm not 100% sure, but I think I read somewhere that upgrade prices would only be available for CS3 and higher.

Hi Jan,
I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but I don't think you can upgrade the collections software individually. At least I couldn't in the past when I had an older creative suite version. I loved all the programs in the Creative Suite but I didn't want to pay to upgrade all of them as I was primarily interested in Photoshop. Fortunately, I was able to purchase photoshop as a student and then upgrade from there. (Hopefully that's no longer the case, but you might want to check with Adobe.)

No if you have a suite you have to upgrade the entire thing and not just selected applications. This is the price you pay for getting the programs at (no pun intended) such a suite price compared to buying the programs separately.

Now if you bought Photoshop standalone you could upgrade just Photoshop or you could upgrade to a suite. But you can not downgrade a suite to a single program or two.

I have CS3 Design Premium and athough I like some of the new features that CS5 offers, I'm not sure if I'll upgrade or not. On the Adobe website there is a link for an upgrade eligibility tool where you select what you currently have and it will come back with how much the upgrade will cost you for either the suite or for individual programs. I can just update PS CS3 to CS5 for $199.

They must have made a change this time. They got a lot of flack from people that did want to drop the suite and just upgrade one application. Nice.

One thing I would suggest you check on is if by upgrading your CS3 suite to Photoshop CS5 only if that breaks your ability to at a later date upgrade the entire suite to the appropriate suite and/or can you then later upgrade other programs in the suite that you choose to update.

It wouldn't surprise me if by upgrading to just Photoshop CS5 breaks your ability for any further upgrades of the suite or individual programs.

BTW if you decide to upgrade to Photoshop CS5 I strongly suggest you go for the extended version. The new 3D tools for doing 3D titles is awesome and would be great for ProShow and the other 3D tools can be used for creating some really interesting photos, backgrounds and animations that would also be very useful for ProShow.
